Project 4x4 Commuter Mazda

?-Jflora37, what kinda gas mileage were you getting? And how wide were those 33's?

I was getting between 12 and 15 mpg with 33"x12.5" wrangler mt/r's the stock wheels get me around 17 mpg.

truck looks good man, now for bigger tires!!! lol, j/k.....anywho, i got my coils today, i got home from work and they were waiting for me, wife had to bring them in and she was bitchin...haha....thanks again man, i'm gonna strip them down and paint them eddie bauer tan before i put them on.

Your welcome thank you, glad they got there. Your wife was prolly not happy for one or two of two reasons A) they were heavy to drag in the house and or B) wondering what her husband has bought for his toy now :icon_rofl:
:icon_cheers:

Yeah I want tires bad.......either BFG KM2's on black steelies or Toyo MTR's. Toyo makes some funny sizes now, I think they even make a 33x10.5 and a 33x11.5 which would be perfect. Ah...someday. Sad thing is my current tires still have about 30K of useful tread left

Yeah you need tires bad....what is the axle gearing in your truck as is? I LOVE my 4 56s and 33's. I got my 12" 5150's on the front of my rig....brake lines were about an inch short, so I fabbed up some limit straps. Anyways, point of the message....the Bilsteins are TITS. Could instantly tell the difference...I highly recommend them.

this first ones before I bolted up the limit straps.

yeah, she was wondering what the hell they were, i explained and i still think she has no idea LOL. she'll get it once they're on and we start doin some mild wheeling.

as for the tires, i'd go with the 10.50, MPG's will be a little better than a 12.50 or 11.50

so what if you still have tread left, that just means they're worth more if you sell them to someone. you know like someone that has an 88 bronco 2 and is getting ready to lift it about 4", that someone may have even just gotten some tuff country 4" lift coils and is currently looking for a cheaper set of tires :D

Oh but I bet the shipping on tires would be unreal....I dunno tho. I catch your drift :D Maybe road trip lol :icon_twisted:

Yep I need to measure for limit straps and bumpstops but haven't gotten around to it.

Runnin the stock 3.73's right now. I've been lookin now for a cheap set of 33x10.5 mud terrains for 2 years now, lets just say its a very rare size to find used.

road trip? yeah, that would be a great mpg tester for the commuter mazda, lol....but yeah, i was kinda joking, shipping would be a ton.....i peruse the local craigslist ad about 400 times a week, i'll find some cheapo's while i save for better ones....BUT, if you're driving to NC anytime, bring them and i'll take them off your hands lol

Haha I'll keep that in mind. But me thinks NC is a little far for a road trip....tha'd be like 8 or tanks of fuel? :bawling:

Hey Nathan what did you use for limit straps?

Hey, I used a set of tie down straps....

http://www.princessauto.com/towing/loading/fastening/tie-down/8020704-2-x-2-ft-axle-strap

I welded a grade 8 washer on each side of it, (this is before I cut and sewed it.)

IMG00298-20100807-1639.jpg

Then measured the length I needed, and cut and re-sewed it to the proper length.

Cost me all of 15$ :D

Thats actually a great idea, I like it :icon_thumby:

Did you make that skid plate for your D35? I've been wanting one for a while now but that company that makes 'em no longer does and I don't have the time lately.

Actually its one that plumcrazy made for me....I would have made it, but he had made one before, and had the pattern on hand, so I just saved myself the hassle and bought one from him.

Even better!

So i measured for shocks just now and Bilstein's 11" travel 5150 is what i want to get and would work perfectly, but it only comes valved at 170/60 which is less than the typical 255/70. Is there any downside to running a single shock that was meant for running duals? For some reason Bilstein doesn't offer a 255/70 valved 11" travel 5150.....WHY!

I don't really want to settle on an 11" travel 5125's but maybe I should if it means I'll get the correct valving (255/70).

Just get the 12" 255/70 valved 5150 like I did. That inch wont make that much of a difference.

Its worth the ride....the single 170/60 isnt quite enough.

My upper shock mount tho isn't as tall as yours, and with the 12" travel 5150 I'd only have 3.25" of up travel. Not near enough as I use every bit of 5" as it is now. I don't wanna limit my up travel if I can help it. Thats why the 11.5" travel 5150 that is 16.5" collapsed and 27.99" extended would work perfectly. But 170/60 valving might not be enough :bawling:

Screw it I'll save myself some money and get the 5125's then they will match the rears.

I have the parts from James Duff to make it duals, and I still could maybe someday. I just ordered 11" travel 5125's.....255/70.
