Project 4x4 Commuter Mazda

Just bought a pair of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pair-Weld-S...ps=63&clkid=4364081608107788008#ht_500wt_1284

Will weld them this upcoming week...I'm gonna borrow a friend's 220v MIG welder. I don't have the money for them but I won't get the chance to use this welder again anytime soon so now or never!

Thanks Nathan for the idea!

I have a list of things I'm gonna do with it :D

1) Finish welding my crossmember by the rear driveline
2) Weld those shackle mounts on the end of the frame horns
3) Weld a strike pad for the front bumpstops
4) And if I have time I wanna plate the front frame horn crumple zones and weld the TJM bumper brackets in place (so everytime I winch, I don't have to re-adjust it....don't worry I will still be able to un-bolt it as the brackets bolt in two places.

i found something that would look awesome on your truck......

OrangeAmsteel.jpg

its simply AWESOME! my buddy that has discountwinchlines.com, now as Amesteel Blue in Orange!

Bro, that is awesome. You made it hard to decide now...blue or orange? That is the question....:bawling:

Remind me cuz I forgot, what is in it for you if I order some of that synthetic line? Soon as my stuff sells I'll place an order!

i don't think anything is in it for me??? he may offer discounts for people that refer others to him, idk yet.. he mentioned it but never said for sure. doesn't really matter since i don't have a winch to buy syl line yet.
i just want for his business to work out..
he recently became a RCV vendor to. :D

Oh Ok. I thought maybe you were gonna get a discount for referring ppl....at least thats what it sounded like! Maybe he will bust a chunk off for when you get around to buying some :icon_thumby:

I hope his business works out too!

I really like the fire orange colored line, but I'm gonna stick with the regular Amsteel Blue to match my James Duff coil buckets :headbang: And a matching black safety thimble & black hawse. Gonna be a slick setup if I ever get around to it! Should happen before years end I am hoping.

If only $1k would fall outta the sky....then I could finish this pig and do more wheeling than talking :icon_confused: Eh who cares its a mall crawler!

Yep! If a thousand fell... I'd pay off my credit card from buying gears and then buy a winch and orange line! I really am a fan of that orange.. Lol. I still don't know if I'll get a discount. I'm not worried worried either way. He's a friend and he has very competitive pricing. So I figured I'd pass the info along.

Even tho my truck has as much blue as it does; I think the orange line would be a nice contrast. Thinking of ordering it when I get my winch. If nothing else bc of the weight reduction. But I'm not worried about a winch till I get my axles under it. If I ever do that. Lol. It'll happen one day.

Yep, I think orange would probably look good with any color scheme. BTW, I don't see safety orange listed as an option for 5/16 winchline on your buddies site, whats the deal?

I am contemplating going with orange (remember I am the most fickle person you know :icon_twisted:). But I don't see it on the site for anything but 3/8 line.

I can't wait to get to welding some sh!t this holiday weekend....probably starting tomorrow night/thursday morning :icon_welder:

Idk. He's only talked about the 3/8's. Idk. It may be to come tho. I'd have to ask.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Got the bumper lined up perfect and then proceeded to take the winch/bumper off so I can box up the brackets & frame tomorrow! :icon_welder: Notice the plywood umbrella, since it was sprinkling...Also note the positive camber and the upward angle on the tierods after removing about 190lbs off the front end.

Tools of the trade:

Half of my list is done. The other half consists of cutting that gawd awful looking cross member out beneath the radiator and welding in a new hihg clearance one....and welding some brackets for my new steering damper. But that's all for today...

so the clevis mounts are gonna be under the bumper instead of thru it???

Yeah the bumper is only 1/8" so I didn't want to weld to that cuz it would be flimsy. Then I would be pulling on the thin bumper, which is pulling on the mounts, which is pulling on the frame....too much of a chain, and a chain is only as good as the weakest link. Too many failure points.

I much rather have it welded to the frame.....Keeping it simple. Only one place for it to fail...and I know it won't fail where I welded it but somewhere along a seam that the factory welded....but I hope to never get that far!

Lots of trucks don't even have that 'cross member' there. My 91 doesn't.
