Restoration Chassis Paint suggestions

What are the members using on their chassis parts these days? Looking for something single product to paint washed wire brushed/bead blasted chassis parts. Used POR15, Rustoleum Prime and Paint in the past.

Depends on the part. Frames I brush paint with oilbased enamels. Cheap 1-2” chip brush and a good heavy coat, repeated several days later. Really old projects get a rust busting red oxide primer first. And then a color coat or three.

Springs either oilbased enamel or aerosol chassis and rollbar paint. Same for the rear axle.

Twin beams get a black epoxy paint. Rattlecan appliance epoxy or similar.

I used POR15 but I only wire brushed the frame and crossmembers, I'm not sure how well it would stick to freshly blasted metal.
I used Rustoleum on my 69 Bronco in 1976 and I'm still pissed about how badly it peeled.

I would follow this guys series a bit to decide on which is best for you, and POR15 is not something you want to use. YouTube is littered with videos of people showing failed POR15 frames.

Rustoleum is good for lawn chairs. It's not really an automotive paint which is made to lst longer and deal with "salted" roads.

The very best product, I believe, is Synmast. It is a solvent free epoxy which can be painted on either bare or painted metal. Solvent free means it will not soften a paint that had been previously applied. It's not cheap. The minimum is a one gallon can for around three hundred bucks. That guy is right about POR15. It's not a paint anyway. It's a primer. It may hold up down south on dry roads, but otherwise needs a top coat and maybe also an acrylic urethane sealer over that.

Is any of the stuff Eastwood sells OK? It seems like so much chemical stuff was reformulated in the early 2000s due to some EPA stuff. Hard to know what to trust anymore. Maybe something marine grade that's not marketed to the general public?

I found Eastwood very good, better than anything you can get at a hardware store or most automotive stores.
