im really interested in what other members have paid to do this swap. i saw something like this stickied in the non ranger axles section for pricing out an sas build, if we could do something like that here it would be cool.

I could help you out by pricing you out my chevy engine swap...but I didn't do the 302 swap.

It would be basically the same...machine work, parts.

The only would be I made most of the stuff custom...I didnt buy motor mounts or relocators or anythiung.

Juist remember to add about 20% on to what ever number you get for stuff you mess up and redo. It is fun to do though.

It all depends on how far you want to go. Do you want to just throw in a 302/tranny that's been laying around or are you going to rebuild it and the tranny before installation.

You're also going to need headers, radiator, oil filter relocation kit, motor mount swap, body lift(maybe), carb or efi, manual or auto, 2x4 or 4x4, a swap to an 8.8 rear end if you don't already have one.

All in all, bare minimum, maybe $1000.

I almost have $8500 worth into mine so far, but I wanted the best of the best.

If you have the $$$ on hand, and wanted to rebuild a motor anyway, go with a crate motor(it's better in the long run, trust me).

yeah im just looking to do a cheap swap maybe getting the engine and tranny for about 4 hundred alltogether

'93 Stang 5.0L w/Harness & Computer on the cheap
L&L Products Adapter Kit with Headers
TCI C4 Auto Trans
Little items all new -hoses, belts, gaskets, rubber trans mount, s/s tubing for trans, etc, etc...
A lot of help from a couple of Friends
Total Priceless, no, no, I mean around $2500

True on that...it can be done for cheap...or it can be done to last.

Can't say that I agree with that. I initially did the swap on the cheap and it was 100% dependable. The completed 351W/C4 swap into a 1984 2wd complete with a narrowed Mopar 8.75" and custom radiator was on the road for under $1300. I went the donor vehicle route; a 1978 LTD II was the victim. This provided the motor, trans, PS pump, lines and mounts (which I modded to work in the Ranger). Since I did this in college, I did it wisely to stay in my limited budget...lots of searching locals ads, selling off parts not needed, trading for other items, etc, etc,

I drove that truck for years, towed a camper and piled the miles on it. Just because you dump a lot of money into something does not mean it is built to last.

Now later when funds permitted I have dumped a pile-o-cash into the motor and trans. But I can tell you that its no more dependable than the original two barrel configuration. All it does now is drink more gas and force me to spend more money on tires!!:icon_thumby:

Depends on what you want.

My truck worked well before I began, and I didn't want to change that.
I also have no intention of adding the receipts. But somewhere between 6 and 10 grand. And I paid no one for labour.

But it would be very simple, quick, and affordable to put a carbed 302 with a C-4 in there. And it would still be cool.

I am in the middle of doing my swap and it can be done for very cheap if you take your time to find things. I have been researching and gathering parts for some time now. I have had the B2 for about 7 yrs. I blew it up back in the day, and just covered it and parked it out back and bought something else. But I got my 302 for free. It wouldn't pass smog and the guy didn't want to deal with it. So I trashed the car for him and took the engine. I got my oil filter relocator, engine mounts and dual electric fans from a guy on here that was parting out his B2 for 100 bucks, shipped. I came across a guy with a d44 & d60 out of a late model f250 and a tranny and T-case out of his 88 f150 all for 300 bucks, in really good condition. And while I was there he had a rolled explorer out back so I got the radiator out of there for free. So all and all I am in to this build for $400 bucks but I would guess I will need to spend another $200 on odds and ends, but that is for the SAS too. It can be done for fairly cheap or you can spend an arm and leg on it.

Let me think: $2200 for the Tremec and associated stuff, $2100 for the new Explorer motor, computer and wiring about $120. All depends on buget and what you want. Got another one one the stand: $1200 for the short block, $1400 for the heads, don't want to go any further.
