hey so i have a 1991 ranger ext 4x4. i pulled up in front of my house and began to parallel park. as i turned the wheel the power steering box began to make a pretty loud churping sound and it was jamming,(choppy) but i couldnt leave my truck in the street so i managed to muscle the steering wheel around to get my truck parked. it wasnt just stiff like low on fluid and it wasnt whining. it was full on just jammed. like i can get the tires to turn, its just super choppy and stiff. and it smelt terrible. any ideas what it could be? is the box just shot? i have a 1993 explorer for parts, are the power steering box's the same? help!

Sounds like the last post I just read. Check for play in the ball joints and tie rod ends first. Then is the power steering pump leaking or seem to be working properly? Then try looking at the wheel/axle joints for any play in them? Thats were I would try looking first.

problem solved

hey i so i figured out what it was. the pulley wheel for the power steering was all cracked and the center peice was just spinning witch wasnt allowed the pump to work.. haha cheep fix

Great, you got it figured out!
