I know this isn't really a site problem, but I do see it as being a problem on the site. Might be better suited to general discussion, but I feel it would just set someone off if I posted in there. Might not be quite as likely if I do so here.

I've gotta ask what happened to the organization here. It's like people don't pay attention anymore and post what ever where ever. General discussion is a catch all for every thing, I mean it is general discussion, but come on. The show off your build forums have become tech questions galore. Posting about lift question in the mini trucks section, when there's a suspension section that would clearly be more suited to that. I get that the mods are too busy to catch and move everything, not blaming or accusing them of anything and they shouldn't have to be constantly moving things into the correct section. It seems like the posters aren't even trying anymore.

V8 swap question in the general discussions. If they would scroll down the main page a little further, there's a sub-forum for that. Might even have the answers already.

Heater questions in GD when there's a whole section devoted to heating and AC.

Transmission questions in the off-road and 4x4 show off section, there's a dedicated transmission section.

That's just a few that I saw at a glance in the last few seconds.

I know that I don't get around much anymore, but I still own Rangers and still like popping in to read every now and again. Used to be everything had a place, now it's just like throw anything anywhere. What happened?!

People have gotten used to social media where you just post whatever into a group. Getting people to follow proper forum posting is like herding cats. It isn’t just here either.

IDK. It annoys me when people post questions in the Articles Submission forum when it clearly states not to.

I've even reduced the number of sub forums in the forum to try to consolidate and keep people from posting everywhere.

The moderators are suppose to move posts to the proper forum. :not_i:

sgtsandman, you're probably onto something there. IMO social media is more a bane than a boon. Making 15 second attention spans the norm. Supporting the notion that the world centers around me. People have gotten used to being handed answers rather than looking for them. Instant gratification rather than the experience of getting there (I'm guilty of that one too). Not a soap box I really want to climb on here and now. While I am on a few social media groups, I much prefer a standalone forum like this one.

I get that, my point there was that they shouldn't have to. It happens so much that it would be an all day job trying to keep up with it.

I also get that we don't want to start reprimanding people and running them off, We want this to be a welcoming site, a place for people to turn for help and want to stay. Just seems to be getting out of control. Probably nothing all that new, but like I said I don't come around all that often anymore to see it.

People are idiots and that is the whole explanation. I have commented on this for years, in the offending threads, and usually get a response to the tune of "sorry, I'm not good at computers". That's fine if you aren't great at computers, but you managed to get through the sign up forms, account confirmation email, and compose your post to ask the question alright, so clearly there is a somewhat competent grasp of language, why wasn't it used in selecting the appropriate area to ask the question in? The only possible reason is that you were too dumb and/or lazy to bother looking.

They don't even have the attention span for a red light to turn green. Terrible reaction times. I feel fortunate at least there is a half a turd of logic, intelligence, and humor here, unlike most places in real life.

I just tried moving a couple threads to the correct forum and it won't let me.

This is a new experience... I typically don't have an issue doing so. This time it lets me select it to move but won't let me select the proper forum. It just says the site is having a problem and to try again later.

I see a few threads that need to be moved... I will keep trying.

There have been permission issues with moving threads to particular forum areas in the past (I don't remember which). Post in the staff section with where you tried to move the threads and Jim or Ryan should be able to fix it.

I thought it might be a problem on my end... so I rebooted... then tried again.

Still the same issue.

I've never had this happen before.

I will post in the staff forum.

Uncle Gump, you are a saint.

Uncle Gump, you are a saint.

I think my 10 week old Beagle puppy would disagree...

According to him... I'm a big meanie that never lets him have any fun.

The guilty don't stop to think that they're more likely to get the help they need if they post in the right forum. For example, if you have an electrical problem, post it in the electrical forum for the quickest and best answers. Not exactly brain surgery.
