According to what I read here, in the link below, the 3.0 had a distributor till 94. My 93 has no distributor. Is the info I'm reading correct? Thanks!

Every 3.0 Ranger from 91-94 has a distributor. It's located in the very back by the firewall. Only the 2.3 and 4.0 engines had a coil pack those same years. Picture would help with this.

It's got a coil pack. It's most definitely not the early motor(with a dizzy). I was just wondering if the 94 cut off date for the distributor equipped motor was correct.

Are you positive it's a 3.0 ?

Also are you sure the coil on it is stock?

Up till this development, I would swear it was factory everything. It appears to be very unmolested, under the hood anyways. I suspect it was a fleet truck of some manner, earlier it's life. I can post a motor pic tomorrow, but it just looks like a factory 3.0 with edis.

I guess you do learn something new everyday! The PO was under the impression it was a 3.0... These v6's are all new to me. That would account for the mpg too. Looks like I'm movin' on up to the 4.0 forum!

did you read the labels under the hood ?

I checked the door tags, which didn't mention a motor. Till it clicked in my head about the coil pack, I had no reason to question that it wasn't a 3.0...

the engine will be on a tag under the hood, along with emmissions tag

What is the 8th digit of the VIN? X

I finally found the "4.0" on the core support sticker. Talk about fine print... I could barely see it! And the 8th digit of the vin is "X".
