In the same week i saw 2 different rangers with the police style swivel spot lights in the A-pillar. Did they come like that from the factory? Or is it something they did aftermarket. And where can i get one? would be very useful (for harassing asshole drivers :thefinger: )

A word to the wise for you. Yeah it would be fun to harrass the asshole drivers as you say, but get the wrong person and police officer and you will find yourself in jail or with a large fine for imperonating a police officer. I would leave well enough alone.

Its not from the factory, you can find them online and also check your local area, most police departments have auctions of surplus equipment. But I don't recommend it for spotlighting idiots. Its just begging for trouble.

I have one but it was installed by the previous owner. As mentioned I would never ever ever use it on roads. However it's great when wheeling at night. I can look around a corner without getting out or digging out the flashlight.

Police auctions, maybe junkyards or online vendors will have them.

I agree with this statement. It isn't worth it

They are definitely aftermarket and you can get them from http://www.unityusa.com/. They are expensive and you should check your local laws but otherwise they are great for private roads at night...

I installed two, one in each A-pillar:D. I keep mine pointed down and off when on public roads. I have gotten a few nods from a few of the local squad cars so I know the cops are always watching someone who has any of "their" equipment; just waiting for them to misuse it. If you can, try craigslist; some Crown Vic sellers may be willing to part out some of the 'non-standard' equipment.

Just remember make sure you stay in the legal boundaries of your jurisdiction and if your not sure what they are just ask your local police:icon_cheers:.

Also not sure how this works but if anyone could move this thread to the lighting and illumination forum it would fit in better.

i highly doubt any cop in any jurisdiction would consider it impersonating PO, but improper use could land you with some hefty charges... additionally depending on your location, there is most likely laws pertaining to where you can have lights on your vehicle... i know where i just moved from, you may not have more than 4 additional lights (i forget if it is in addition to headlights, or stock lights) they must be switched in pairs, and wired to work 2 as fog, which work only with low beam, and/or 2 as driving lamps, to work only with high beam, with a total of 4 lights max on at any time, may not be mounted higher than the center line of the stock headlights, with an additional maximum and minimum height from the ground (lifted/lowered vehicles) and all must face forward...

that being said, where i lived, it was absolutely NOT enforced at all, there are trucks running around with 20 or so lights all the way around their roof racks, and it would never even be mentioned...

Here in so cal, at least la county there is no limit to the number of off road lights you can put on your vehicle. The distinguishing feature of off road lights is while on road they can't be functional. This can either be done by pulling a fuse or with covers like the ones that are supplied with day lighters. As for the cop style lights I see a few on the roads but they are always in the down position and no one gets hassled

This is a close-up of where I installed my spotlights in case anyone wants to know.

I put one in my old 94 ranger, it's a pain in the ass to get it in.

It was handy at times though. I still have a few in the garage.

It came in very handy when camping, alot of light where you needed it without moving the truck.

Even worked out being able to shine the light back behind the truck.

I cussed that thing for hours trying to get it in without breaking the glass, if you look it's very very close to the edge.

Hey, you guys know you have the same truck?

The one on our service truck is always pointed backwards so rocks won't hurt the lens. It is an old Burlington Northern truck, we never use the light.

Dad's '57 Chevy has the optional rear view mirror/spotlight. The spotlight is normal like a car but it has the rear view mirror made into the rear of it.

Spotlighting idiots will do nothing but get you in trouble, I wouldn't do it.
