Does anyone know of any special care you need to give an air-induced injury?

I blasted my hand while draining water from the main air tank this morning at work. I opened the valve faster than I wanted to.

I got blasted good in my one hand and have what appears to be a small through and through on my other thumb. I have no reason to think any physical objects except a few specs of dirt are actually embedded in my hand. I think most of what hit me was water droplets.

I remember hearing about somebody else doing that, i dont think there was anything he could do but hurt like hell til it got better. But he wasnt the brightest bulb in the crayon box so there might be something you can do to help it

I don't really hurt. I forgot about it until a bit ago and I looked at my hand and saw all these little black specs right where I got shot.

I put some draw-out salve on it. I guess I'll just need to watch for infection now.

like any other wound, keep it clean. pour some alcohol in there and keep it covered for a little while.

If anything was injected water or dirt, you may want to keep a close eye on it. I know at work they constantly warn us about injection injuries. The part injected will rot off and you could die from infections from it. I have never seen it but they spend slot of time warning about it so maybe there is something to it.

Dude, that is gonna leave a mark...lol Not fun. While I was on Sub duty in the Navy we had the low and high pressure pipes that if a leak was heard (you could hear that puppy a roaring) you were not to touch it with your bare hands or you could loose a finger, hand or a face!!! Some people did loose something once in awhile when they stuck their face up to see where the leak was coming from or they reached up there with their hands to feel the leak to see where it was coming from.
That is a mild hurt you got so you got lucky. Just put a cold compress on it 3 times a day. Clean it good several times a day and don't cover it unless you uses a breathable type bandage. Got to let the wound get some air.

i let them breathe at night. that way i cant open up the wound further while i'm out screwing around (most likely doing something i shouldnt). i've made a lot of cuts worse doing that....but i wont get into my old oyster shucking job from college lol

I would worry more about internal problems, such as flesh infections, or blood infections, besides that.... neosporin and skin grows back... yay...

I work at a company that only makes pressure equipment. In one safety class we had a long time ago they warned us about blowing compressed air on your skin because if you had cuts you could actually get air bubbles in your blood that can kill you. Never heard of it actually occurring, but it might be worth googling. Hey - at least you didn't hit your head on something.

That's not enough pressure for blood poisoning. A bursting hydraulic line or diesel injection pipe can reach blood vessels. You probably just have something imbedded in your skin. Just keep an eye on it. If you et blood poisoning you'll see the red line heading toward your heart. Go in immediately then.

ad, if it's an open wound, use peroxide on it to kill off infection and keep it clean. Drawing salve may or may not do anything to pull out whatever's in there.

It's not really open. I think what I originally thought to be specs of dirt are actually tiny scabs. I picked at a few of the bigger ones that were closer to the surface. They popped out and pussed a bit, almost like a black head that lets out liquid.

Since you are not dead, and seemingly coherent, I wouldn't worry about it. I cant count the times I've scraped a knuckle, jabbed my hand with a screwdriver etc and have never gotten an infection from it. !! Grease and oil are antibiotics!!
