PlumCrazy's Build

I hope the new 1 ton turns out as nice as the F150 did. What ever happened to the diesel Izusu Nick had a while back? Wasn't that going to be the tow rig?

I sold the Isuzu and made enough profit to buy the F350. All said and done I should have less than $500 in a roadworthy Dually.

The Isuzu would have been cool, but service parts are pricey and not as easy to find as a Ford pickup.

This turd came from my usual dealer...Just like the Isuzu and little Ranger...And all the axles and transmissions I have swapped.lol

I don't plan to really clean up body much, it's not rotted so I will probably Fluid Film it and rock the patina.

you think the 460 should tow well? 7.3's are getting cheap these days.

Im not a fan of diesels honestly. They are expensive to maintain, noisy, and shake to much.lol

I like a good ole EFI gasser that starts regardless of temperature and can fill up at any gas station at any pump.lol

i agree with all of that. im not a big fan of diesels iether. but with the dropping price of older ones and the 2x gas mileage ive gotten more interested. a light built 460 would probably tow better than an old 7.3 anyways. would have a lot more hp for sure.

Good update. I'm keeping my eyes out for a good 460 over here in IL for ya.

I think am picking up an engine this evening, but I still need a ZF5 and all the related swap parts.

How many million miles does the average 7.3 have today?

The 7.5 won't tow as well but they are no slouch. Dad has a '96 F-250 460/5spd with one, it moves right along even with 200k on it.

Agreed. We have a 96 f-250 460 5 speed on the farm with 170k. It gets abused on a regular basis but still runs like a top. They are no turbo diesel but hold their own as far as N/A motors go. I'd take one over a 7.3 IDI for sure.

Those rims turned out nice. :) I'm not normally ford guy but I do love that body style. My uncle had a light blue one when he was just out of the air force.

Still no progress on the Ranger...but the dually has new power plant that is almost ready to go in.

95 460 bored .030" over, I replaced/ing all gaskets and valve seals as well as going to pre 72 cam timing.

Hopefully has a little pep.

Also sporting a power slider and fully functional power doors.lol

The weather seals were sunbaked and let the motors/actuators get wet in the doors, so I had to replace the motors and locks. Stripped the wrinkling tint off too.

Also pulled the heads on the original engine...turns out this ole big block has had a hard life.. notice the large chunk of the #1 piston is MIA..
