PlumCrazy's Build

Ordered coils today.

6.5" XJ 190ppi Rough Country. I was looking at Rustys 180ppi 8.5" coils, but I want to keep this thing streetable.

Tomorrow work continues on brake lines, passenger coil bucket, and shock mounts.

Those coils are the same ones I have. Your going to loose about 3" of ride height.

I am going to run 1" Jeep coil spacer/insulators, and I am hoping to lose 2.5"ish up front so I can ditch the stock block in the rear.

You might have to put an extra 3/4" spacer on the driver side to fix the ranger lean.

2" lower will look and work great on that truck

Did some work this past weekend.

Moved the brake hose frame mount back behind where the shock mount will be. It keeps them out of the coil and gave me about 6" more slack for droop.

I pulled the passenger side bucket and chopped off the shock mount and welded up the seat to accept long bumps and jeep coil insulators. I am glad I did this before winter, the little pockets behind the bucket trap so much salt and mud. The frame had some rust pitting but nothing major. The bucket had little holes through it. I was able to cut most of it off with the shock mount, and i welded up the thin area on the bucket.

I am going to bolt on the bump stops until I get everything the way I want it so I can change them if need be.

Coils haven't showed up yet, and I don't want to order the insulator/spacers until i figure out what height the coils put me at.

Until the coils show up I the truck sits like this. I threw chunks of wood in to hold the truck so i could get it out of the shop.lol BTW it rides like shit.lol

Its about 4" lower up front. I am shooting for about an inch taller than this once the coils are in. I may swap the stock block for a 1" block since I like the truck to have a little rake to it.

I also adjusted the Johnny Joints out a little to get the tires out of the fenders. Looks like I need to make new front drive shaft since the slip yoke isn't engaged by much. I should be close to 6" or so of lift when I'm done. The 12" I was sitting at was cool for looking decent on the street, but it gets sketchy quick on steep trails.lol

Yes.lol. I have to figure out the lowers still. I need to move them back an inch.

I have a plan, I need my coils to get started on them.

Coils are here.

They are about an inch shorter than my EB coils unloaded, so with a 1" spacer and my lower seats I am building I should sit 3-4" lower.

Sorry for the fuzzy 80's porno pics, there was oil on my lense apparently.

Coils are in and fit like a glove. Built bump stops and one shock mount and ran out of Argon. Shocks and coil isolators are in the mail, so it should be done next weekend.

I need to move my frame side tracbar mount over about 3/4" to center up the axle since its sitting a bit lower now, but I though ahead back when I made the mount and drilled two sets of holes for adjustability. So I just have to move to the next set of holes. I am also going to trim a hair more off the engine crossmember to clear the tracbar at full stuff.
Looks like I can knock the rear block down to 1" to keep it with a little rake. And I need 2* wedge bushings to get the pinion angle up a hair.

Pics tomorrow, forgot to take any of the shock mount, but I will update this weekend too when I finish up.

The XJ coils sit perfect in the EB style seats, so I didn't have to start from scratch. To get my coils to sit straight I had to move the lower mounts back 1.5" which conveniently is the bolt spacing on the lower mount. So I moved the mount back so that the front hole was using the hole in the RA.

On the pass side I had to turn the lower seat 180 to clear the offset built in to allow the seat to sit flat.

Then I added a block to the arm an drilled and tapped a hole under the rear hole in the mount

I added same 1/4" plate around the block to support the lower seat.

Made some bump stops that bolt on with 1/2" bolts.

The coils went from 22.5" unloaded to 16" loaded, so by the time I add the rubber isolator in I will be sitting about 3" lower up front.

When the wheel starts to stuff the extended wheelbase really shows.lol

The coil sits straighter than this at ride. The EB coils always had huge arch in them since my lower seat was too far forward and the RBV buckets didn't allow them to sit right anyway.
