Please settle this question

Ok. I won't worry about the charcoal canister then. I was researching solutions to fit in a gas tank from another Ford Ranger model year (and also universal tanks). I looked at Ranger model years all the way into the 2000's. I also took measurements under the truck.

1988 Ford Ranger is all I found so far.....metal fuel tank still being sold new.
locking ring and tank vent valve can carry over from old tank
fuel pump wiring might need to be extended
fuel tank filler neck might need to be modified or shortened
access hole I already cut into box a few years ago......might need to be lengthened

I am just guessing that these changes would be needed.

Or I could just melt on patches from oil drain pan like I already did on the other crack.

Maybe check with local junkyards? Around here they hole them before they go out to the yard but maybe you can get a yard to set one aside before they punch a hole in it for you?

I'll probably remove the polyethylene tank first and melt a patch cut from oil drain pan over the crack(s)
Bolt it back up...but not tight. Then continue to look for a new tank as standby if repair doesn't hold

Yeah. Personally I’ve had my fill of steel tanks, but that’s also partly because of where I live, rust is a major problem. Steel tanks just don’t hold up well here. Both of my Bronco IIs and at least one of the parts trucks I’ve had all ended up with rust holes in the gas tank.

My F-150 had a roughly 1-year old steel replacement tank start leaking when I bumped the seam with a wrench. Mind you I do mean a bump, I was reaching between it and the frame with a wrench to do the leaf spring hanger bolts and bumped the seam. The factory front tank started weeping not long after. I put plastic in for both, cost me twice what a steel tank would but they’ve been in the truck for probably around 15 years now.

Geez......just tapped it with a wrench and that's all it takes for it to leak ?
Yup. Spectre brand. The rust had already eaten its way into the seam enough for a bump to finish the job in roughly a years time in this salty rust belt mess.

Maybe I wasn’t specific, the rear tank was the replacement one that I bumped and started leaking, the truck still had a factory front tank at the time but it started leaking at the straps.
