Planning trip with older Ranger - What to worry about

my power steering fluid is a little low, but i can't for the life of me remember what fluid to use... is it still ATF, or did ford switch to another fluid?

For yours it is still ATF.

By 2011 MY I think almost everything has changed to electricity for the PS fluid though.

it is a fluid fluid of some kind, certainly not a battery/acidic fluid in mine...

seriously though? electric power steering? i suppose it makes perfect sense... would be much more reliable i would imagine too... no leaks to spring, no seals to wear out... alternators last longer than most waterpumps on my vehicles...
