pillar gauge pod?

Guess maybe it wouldn't work to good on the passenger side...would have to turn it upside down and that would screw up the viewing angle. Oh well, the drivers side has room for several more pods! I see they are also making dash pads with gauge pods.

I can't believe that new dashes are so user-unfriendly for the DIYers. Can't even find a decent place to install a toggle switch, for petes sake!

i got lots of room for lots of switches in my '93 dash:

i made custom pods for my escort (because i didnt care how ugly they turned out) foam core with fiberglass, spray painted black. i have yet to take a picture of the finished pod (i will have 2 once i get off my ass to make the second one, water temp. and oil pressure.)...but heres the mockup:

the final product didnt turn out too shabby. i could have spent more time sanding but i got impatient. stuck it to the dash with double sided tape.

Could also install on the passenger A-pillar. No problem seeing that far, in a Ranger.

wow can we say rice. If you need that many gauges in your truck, you might as well build a new dash or gauge cluster. just think every little ricer is gonna pull up next to you and want to race if you have both pillars full of crap. the most I can think anybody would need extra in a stock auto truck. would be a oil pressure gauge, the stock one really isn't a gauge trans temp. espeacily and possibly a water temp gauge.

theres nothing wrong with adding extra guages. i plan to add a number of extra guages once i find a decent place to mount them (id love to do a custom instrument cluster)...but then i like to know exactly what my truck is up to. i already have oil pressure and an hour meter, id like to add an ammeter, oil temp. (more reliable and useful than water temp), and a more perminent vacuum guage.

Ya, same here. I plan on having quite a few guages in my truck once the 4bt goes in, probably in a 4 pod custom pillar setup.

As far as switches I run mine in the slot provided by the 1.5DIN adapter for putting a deck in the truck. Here's an older pic, as my satellite radio sits in there now too....
