I know it isn't the cleanest install, especially all of the oil on the thing! but you know how bad the PCV system is, and also how valve cover bolts work loose or at least the seal needing to seat... the oil drenching isn't as bad as it once was, don't know why but I'm going with it...

from the pics you can see my nifty DIY intake elbow made of drier tubing and blue duct tape (blue makes it faster), and my fancy DIS module heat sink, the rest is pretty straight forward. You can also notice that I put in the extreme duty 4.0 explorer radiator, I went with it's schroud even though it's a good 3 inches larger diameter than my fan, but my stock schroud is more of a safety shield to keep your fingers out of the fan than an actual schroud, so I figured this would work better.

thought I'd share since it's been a solid 7 months since I got it running... in my defence I mispaced my camera for a few of those months in the middle

it was 20* outside when I finished and it took a fair amount longer than I intended, once I go to the junk yard and get a 2.9 air filter box to replace what I have I'll redo my intake arrangement to look better (and not be bunjeed down)

other than the intake, DIS module and coolant temp sensor wires I didn't redneck too much... the ducting is there because 9pm on a sunday night doesn't leave many options open, and that's what $10 gets you at wallyworld, it's still there because I know it's not permanent and it works

All I can say is WOW. But it works and thats all that matters.

it was to get it on the road again, but stayed that way because it worked...

just to note, I'm slowly cleaning it up, after running it on the sand dunes and then wheeling in the dust it got FILTHY under there (was fully clean when I installed it), and now I've worked many kinks out of the thing, so I'm going to redo a few things

Whoever invented the bungee cord is going to heaven--period. They can put your eye out, but they are so useful that the risk is worth it. Like a High Lift jack.

Cool ! Now just take some time and clean it up a bit .:icon_thumby:

dont apologize for junk that works.

it works:icon_thumby:

one step at a time:icon_thumby::icon_thumby:

yeah, I let street guys get to me I guess :)

I actually hate bungee's for holding down cargo, every time you need the dang things they're tangled together or worn out... but I had one (total) and needed something to hold down the box :)

I bought some brake clean to help that dirty issue, when I get a chance I'll hose er down...

having a broken truck that you have no idea on the problem makes you not want to do little things to make it better, and I did take the time to clean it up the last times I worked on it, didn't want crap going down the intake and since it was off cleaned the upper intake.

I might have to move in the near future, but the good news is I might have found a place with a garage that you can actually fit a truck in...

I just slapped on a cone filter. It really cleans things up. I also moved the battery over so i could make more room and get the filter to some fresh air. The old battery box was a great mounting place for the filter after a little trimming. You should try it.

cool im gonna try to save money up for all the stuff i need to do the 2.3t swap and try to do it in a weekend since its my daily driver.

I just noticed you aren't using an inner cooler.

oh, yeah, no intercooler yet, it would greatly help my hot running tendencies... sorry for the delay, somehow I didn't see your post

ok, for the cinics of my previous air filter setup, my new air filter setup is GREATLY improved in both looks and function. I had a crazy idea about using a stock 2.9L air filter box because of it's outlet location, the stock 2.3L box is HUGE in comparison because of the stupid air muffler thing they put in it, it exits out the side like 8" past the side of the box whereas the 2.9 box exits the front at a 45* angle toward the engine, to get my stock air filter housing to work I had to turn it sideways which took up a LOT of room and was super hokey. why the 2.9L box you ask? no MAF, it's the same as the 4.0L box but without the MAF so it's shorter, takes the same air filter as my stock box, looks stock other than the splice I had to make in the hose... I used the stock 2.9L intake hose with the middle 80% removed and greatly trimmed and modified, it'll look like I just stuck one hose around the other and clamped it together, but I put a PVC ring on the inside to compress against, I stuck it in my lathe and reduced the wall thickness by half and blended both sides to improve flow. I haven't put the stock air inlet tube in yet that sucks the air from next to the grille (yet another reason my engine runs bad when it's hot, it was sucking air from directly next to the turbo), but that's going on in the next day or two, I'm blocking the blend door thing open...

also grabbed a '80's 2.3 oil cap since mine was broken, this one has the breather tube out the top, maybe that will help my oil mess issue...

I'll get pics tomorrow at some point

Here's the pics:

I know it's still filthy under there, I've been wheeling in dusty locations, and that makes a mess when you have oil leak issues
