Peak rpm

New guy here, picking up a 4cyl ranger for my kid to drag race. What rpm do these 4cyl "nose over" (stop making power) yes it will rev to 7000 or whatever, but where does it stop pulling hard? I'm guessing 5000 or so?

Also, what year did the fly by wire throttle cable start, I'd like to avoid it if possible.

One last question, what was the standard and optional rear gears in these? I'm guessing 3.73-4.10?

Not sure where any of the 4-cylinders peak. Knowing the year range you are looking at will help as I am sure the numbers are different for the 2.3/2.5 Lima engines and the 2.3 Duratec.

"Fly by wire throttle cable" is a contradiction in terms. Either it has a throttle cable or it is fly by wire, they are mutually exclusive. This is the part where I would normally ask you to go figure out what you really meant to ask and then rephrase the question in a way that makes sense. However the North American Rangers never had an electronic throttle control system, so the question is moot.

The gear were what they were. Probably 3.73 and 4.10 were the only factory options. Frankly I wouldn't have a 4-cyl Ranger with anything higher than 4.88s. 5.13s would be preferable, but neither were a factory option.

Thanks for the reply, sorry for taking so long to get back.
Anyway, so none have fly by wire, good. Rear gear is 3.73 or 4.10, that'll do for now, when I put the v8 in (whichever) I'll throw the 74 bronco 9" rear I have with 4.86's and 30x9 slicks.
Can't run slicks without a c clip eliminator so tires until the rear swap.

Kid just seen a 2004 he likes but it's an extended cab and a v6....

Whenever he finally pulls the trigger, there'll be pics.
