Hello. I have a 1997 with a 2.3 manual trans. 2wd. If I have access to a pcm from a buddy's truck with the same f77f 12a650 lc part number, can I use it without having to get it reprogramed to my truck? Will it just have the wrong vin married to it but work fine? Thanks!

Should be fine but PCM's have catch codes that are 4 digits. I would probably check to make sure that is then same as well. Mine is RRH2 for example.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where would i find the catch code? I see other ones like mine have different last letters as well.

f77f 12a650 lc

F7 = 1997, F = 199, 7 = 7, E was 198

7F = Ranger

12a650 = Ford part number for ALL PCMs

LC = Hardware/Firmware Version, can be specific to Manual or Automatic Trans

3 or 4 digit "catch code", is stamped on label when PCM has software loaded on it, also found on sticker/label near PCM in engine bay or passenger door jamb
This code was never listed by Ford for meaning, no "lookup"
So best bet is to match "new" PCMs engine options to yours
Manual/automatic
EGR/no EGR
Are the two biggies

Dang RonD, Thanks for the break down!
