Screw It... Theres always BEER.
Anybody know where I can find a horn button for my 88? I have at least a year left until inspection, and Im not putting a freakin doorbell on my dashboard. The Ford dealership can't order them anymore, because Ford never expected my truck to last 27 years.

This is normal and expected.

Have you tried a junkyard?

+1

That's what I would do. Find a nice new wheel with some personality. You have the perfect truck. NO AIRBAG to deal with.

There is an auto parts store where I live...and they have gotten me quite a bit of stuff for my 92 (door handles, replacement fenders) that I didn't think I would be able to get...

I just ordered the door handle yesterday and the guy called and VM'd me that the part would be in today...I will go over tomorrow and check it out...but...

I don't know where they get their stuff from, but when I had the 88 they ordered the fenders in for me...I will try to use them on the 92...

I had a look in their parts book and it showed just about complete interior trim and all that for the 88 Ranger...too bad you were not on here sooner because I just scrapped my 88 with a complete steering wheel and interior trim...

Try junk yard, try LMC, then look for an aftermarket wheel.

I ran into the same problem with my brake hard lines and just recently oil dipstick.

Well Ford doesn't stock or even make hard lines for most new vehicles. They just say to make replacements from bulk line. Hard lines are hard to replace because of all the stuff in the way. It's easier to just fish bulk line through off a roll and flare the ends.

Horns rarely get used, and I've gotten a couple vehicles that they didn't work on, I pushed and wiggled on the button and that was enough to clean the contacts. I've gotten cruise control working on more than one vehicle the same way...

I had a surprisingly hard time turning up a stock dipstick and tube for a foxbody 5.0 a few years ago.

I forget how I found it, nobody would show it by application. I had to stumble apon the number on my own.

The assumption that Ford didn't expect the vehicle to last that long has

absolutely nothing to do with them not being able to get a part anymore, and

if the parts man at Ford told you that, well, he's an idiot. As vehicles get older,

especially once they are no longer considered a "late model", manufacturers

often will quit producing odds and ends parts, i.e. a horn button, because by

that time there are either enough aftermarket companies making

them/enough of them sitting in junkyards that they don't need to. Imagine all

the money manufacturers would waste still producing every little part like that

for every vehicle they've made. Wouldn't make much sense, would it?

The Ford dealers can't find a speedometer cable for my truck either, But I found one online anyway.

It was a joke man, relax.
