Seriously, if you saw someone, lets say a teen and their father, repeatedly practicing parallel parking next to your vehicle on the street, would you get mad?

I would be very annoyed. Would I say something? Maybe only if they hit it. But yeah I would be somewhat ticked, especially since they can just set up cones.

You could always go move it. I would probably be a little worried myself.

if it was mine, i'd be upset if it was hit, but come on there is a big difference between say your average mid-size car at say 15 ft long versus say a parking cone that is only 12x12 on it's base. worse case scenario, they hit your car and have to pay damages. in my case that would be sweet cuz i have a 1978 camaro with matching numbers that if it was mint would be worth some change. best case would be that you now have a better driver in the world. myself, i would hope for the latter, only because i have seen too many of today's youth who are not taught proper driving habits. case in point, a few months ago we had a group of teenagers driving home from a party and got lost, instead of pulling over to use her cell phone she starts to text message for directions WHILE driving, doesn't pay attention to road and the fact that it dead ends at a river [ the Elwa River that empties into the Straight of Jaun deFuca ], out of seven kids in the car only five made it out alive, the driver lived. so to all of you want to get mad at a responsible parent for teaching his kid proper driving habits:buttkick: , i might be one of those responsible parents. oh, and sorry for the :threadjacked: but i see too many irresponsible young drivers[and adults for that matter] who talk on cell phones while driving and just in general not paying attention to their surroundings............anyway..............

you don't practice parallel, either your good at it, or go find a parking lot:idiot:

or your like me and say f the curb, what curb

It's not a requirement to get your license anymore. When I took my license test I just had to back into a parking space, didn't have to parallel park. Even when I was taking my driving lessons my teacher only made me try it once and that was it.

Apparently it's by location, then, as it was a requirement for me! I failed my first time because of that.

I wouldn't be mad. Only if they hit it. I practiced by other peoples cars, so I shouldn't be a hypocrite.

Last summer i was working a job at this one house and it just so happens to turn out that the neighborhood it was in the was the main one that the local driving school used to teach the students all their driving skills, including of course parallel parking. And of course having to park my truck on the street, it was constantly used to practise parking skills so i knew it was only a matter of time before something happened...and of course it did.
I was luckily enough outside at the time and these two guys in a big 'ol gmc vandura attempted to park behind me and of course failed. They almost knocked my mirror right off and were about to drive away until i came over and took a look. Luckily it wasn't too bad but still it pissed me off cuz i'd only had the truck fer about a month :pissedoff:

If it were my truck, I'd watch and hope they would hit it, so I could see what kind of damage would be done to their vehicle.

If it were my car, I'd move it the hell somewhere else, pronto.

In NY, it is.

Jeez, guys. Use a paper bag for hyperventilation.

Would you rather he practiced donuts in front of your car?

Parallel parking is a normal maneuver. If he hits your car, you SAW him and can nail is butt if he tries to flee. He's responsible for all the damage he might do.

Now, do you drive your truck to the supermarket? 'Cause you just MIGHT get a ding from some idiot parking next to you.

Keep it in perspective. He's practicing. That's FAR better than some numbnuts tourist in San Francisco with a weak parking brake parallel parking very badly, and then having it roll into you. You WANT people to know this stuff.

Oh, and did you know student drivers DRIVE ON THE SAME ROAD YOU DO! Omigod!

eh, I am with MAKG on this one. They got to learn how to do it. I am glad that the kids dad took the time to go out and teach her to how to do this. more learning and more practice will make a better driver, and that isn't bad in my opinion.

If they hit your truck while practicing, that is when you can get concerned. more than likely, they will only tap it and do nothing to it if they do hit it, and If the father is responsible enough to take his kid out to teach driving skills, he will be responsible enough to exchange insurance info with you if the truck does get damaged.

And if you are worried that someone will hit and flee, get full coverage insurance on it and call it good...

We had to do it to get a license. But it was easy. Chevy Citation. The driver's Ed teacher has been through 15,000,000 attempts in that car. So he tells you where to pull up to, when to cut it. By the end of the semester it's no big deal as you have that car down pat. Then you go home with your license and you're in you mom's LTD and you no longer know how to parallel park.

My 21' longbed crewcab--I don't even try it. Impossible. It doesn't even fit in the diagonal parking in most places downtown. I park it in the Sears lot and walk. My little Honda I don't need to parallel park. I drive it straight in and give it a hip bump to scooch it over if it's out a little.
