Painting whole truck with undercoating/etc?

Years and years if done right... Get it professionally done with line-x or rhino liner and it will last longer than the truck

I tried searching and either it wasnt working, or there wasnt a thread like this started (i am thinking there probably has tho...) so i apoligize if this has been overposted.

Anyways, can you just paint the truck entirely with a undercoating or something of the sort? Will it do anything to help anything at all? lol Or is it bad to do? Basically i have my old truck that is showing its older, canadian owned, features. That, and i got in an accident so the fender and some of the front end is not the same colour as the origonal paint. So i figured instead of leaving it or spending a fortune on having it painted, i might be able to do something at home that would make things hopefully a bit more durable perhaps?

Lol Let me know your thoughts and if you have done it. Also if you have any suggestions for me. Thanks

That would be a unique look for sure! ;-)

Not suggesting this of course, but a while back I saw a van done completely in black carpet! Strange looking that one was!
I bet that critter gained a ton in a rain storm!

Ok, well would anyone happen to know offhand a general price i would be looking at to have this done professionally? Lol Im going to go out on a limb and say...alot..

More than a bed costs (300-400 here) but probably less than a professional paintjob (I don't mean the 100$ maaco jobs either)

saw a jeep cj done with Line-X over the whole body. it was a demo for the local Line-X dealer. looked ok... from a distance. up close, not so hot, imho. might have been better if they could have taken out the rubber (or whatever) granules so it would have been a little more smooth. there are ones now that can do a smooth bed liner it the buyer wants.
just a thought.

Well I was thinking the kind of bumpy look would be nice for an offroad truck. Seems like it would give it more of a rough and tough look when lifted and everything lol. What didnt you like about it, was it not consistant in places? I've never seen it done, but i've seen bedliner and trucks lol.

the one i saw was a few years ago. it was starting to fade unevenly from uv exposure. perhaps that's less of a problem now, idk. the sand colored areas on my truck (avatar) is bedliner. also both the inside of the bed and the cab are bedlined.

If you're still looking to bed-line your truck I bought an $8 can of Rustoleum's bedliner (autozone and wal-mart have it for sure) and went to town on my 93 chevy.

The fender flares, mirrors, rims, and bumpers are bed-lined. You can see the flares have faded a little more than the bumpers because they were done before, but I did them last summer iirc.. So they didn't fade too bad. Up close and to the feel they are textured, but stand back and they just look painted black. It all depends if you feel like taking on a whole truck with a rattle can haha.

I think Durabak's website has some pics of people who have done their whole trucks and stuff. They sell it in all kinds of differant colors too...I know I've thought about it, at least the rocker panels, headache rack, bed, bumpers etc...

They have the textured and smooth as I recall. They even send you info and samples upon request.

I have a 87 rx7 that I bedlined the whole thing with a kit I got from
A company called u-pol raptor bedliner comes as a kit with a gun ,liner, etc
And for like 30 more bucks you can get the kit that you can add color to .
Which is what I'm gonna do on my 94 ranger and tint it to add silver grey
Gunmetal . My rx7 so far has held up well enough that when I pull the motor
I'm gonna spray the engine bay . For a 100 buck for the black kit you can't go wrong

hmmmm, i want to say spam on this post, but it mentions rangers, and doesn't seem to have any links.... fyi, the first post you made worked, no need for the second, either way welcome to the site and thanks for the input, i might check out that site, 100$ for a good bedliner (is it uv stable?) is a good deal... i need to do my bed here pretty quick...

ok so 300 for linex, or 50 bucks for 10 cans of flat black and a case of beer. come on man, just spray bomb it.

something like this maybe:thefinger:
