Painting whole truck with undercoating/etc?

a local line x here has a 70's k5 blazer they built as a show truck that they covered with the bedliner. it looked great and it was durable. herculiner roll on stuff with the right prep could come out just as good though and cost significantly less. here its about $60 a gallon

I think it could look great, it just need the right color shade. some just look like crap even when done right cause it ends up looking like idk... crap... I hope it turns out good and if you do please post pics. i was thinking of this but, id have to take my time and do it right, i dont want my old truck to look worse lol.

sorry to hijack the thread, but when i bought my truck, it came with a plastic piece on the tailgate... do you guys who do the liner, remove the plastic liner and paint the metal, or just not bother with the tailgate?

are you talking about inside the bed? or the bumper? im confused? photo and use paint to draw an arrow?

tail gate piece of the bedliner? keep it, unless you're doing bedliner. then bedline the tailgate to. all spayon / roll on bedliner fades to gray unless you get the high price line-x ultimate or whatever its called...its pretty good for sure. but just the chevy bedliner would have been $150 more.. so we didn't do it. i mean heck i got my chevy bedliner done for $168 total.. i won a $400 off gift certificate to line-x of memphis so, i couldn't refuse. i'm really happy with it, except its a chevy

the inside of the tailgate on my truck, has the plastic tail gate bed liner, from ford, every new ranger i've seen has it... should i take it off, when i do my roll on, or leave it plastic?

i don't think i have a pic, but if you look at this video, at the beginning, you can see the curogated plastic on the tailgate, but nowhere else

One piece of advice for anyone looking to do a DIY "roll-on" bedliner. Dont roll it, spray it. Pick up a Schutz gun (usually around $20) and spray it, you'll be much happier with the results.

fun video, that is why i wanna lift my truck, just to go on trails through shallow water, up hills. light a fire have a barbecue, shoot some hunters. ya know, the usual.
wish i could find trails where i live i dont know any... maybe some day ill hit up explodan and go on some trails if im equipped and idk what he has on his id have to check....

i should make a thread with just a bunch of videos of my truck wheeling... i don't think i've got a video thread...

I love the view of the hill climb where truck waited at bottom... the view was awesome... ohh if i wasnt married... id already have 25k into this thing if i wasnt...lol

So is there a way to do bedliner that will last close to a normal paint job? I wont be doing this for i while, if i ever do, but it sounds like it would be cool and give the truck a more "rough" look. :P

Sand the paint, wipe it down with whatever the manufacturer says to (in my case Xylene), and shoot it. Thats about it. Just make sure you use a bedliner that is UV stable and the sun wont fade it.

Your pic looks like you have the STX stickers on the sides of your truck, you have to completely remove them before you spray it.

What he said!

Prep will keep the paint adhered to the truck (peeling), quality will keep it from chipping and cracking, and uv stable will actually do 2 things... First, will make sure it doesn't fade, which is a big deal! And second, will make sure it doesn't break down structurally and turn to powder over time

Yes, i would dot he prep very well so it would last as long as possible.... But do you guys think it is a good idea and will last long if done right?

And yes i have the STX sticker on the side which i will miss dearly. But my accident made me get rid of the front drivers side fender with the decal so its gotta go anyways :/
