The valence was not smoothed at all. It was lightly scratched with scotchbrite, wiped clean with alchohol and then went over with a tack rag. A couple coats of adhesion promoter and then it was painted.
It actually turned out looking pretty good.
The mirrors were done at the same time, they were sanded with 240, and then the same treatment as the valence
No, the valence was not sanded. It was not necessary. But a thorough cleaning was necessary and done. A primer is also not needed, the adhesion promoter acts as a primer.
You also ask about the grill and it was also prepared the same way.
Scotchbrite, and a good cleaning with rubbing alcohol, and then it was wiped down with a Tack Rag. Finally an adhesion promoter is used. I used two coats and a one stage paint (I had a little left over from another project). I think it was three coats but I dont remember
The valence has three coats of color and four coats of clear.
