As some of you know I put my truck in the shop to have all the clutch components replaced as well as the rear main seal. My check oil light came on yesterday and it looks to be coming from the rear main. I've got a reciept that says they replaced it. In my mind I shouldn't have to pay twice. Iether they didn't replace it or they busted it while putting it in. And I'm not aware that it even leaked before I had it replaced. What should I do?

You should go back to the shop and complain. If they are reputable they should back up thier work. Possible damage to the seal when installing the tranny, or problem with the input shaft causing the seal to fail? Bad enough leak to drop out oil to the point it triggers the idiot light, not gonna be running for long if it isnt adressed.

Receipt says 12 month 12k mile warranty its been 3 months. But I'm not sure that covers parts. . Ill be pissed if they want me to pay labor.

Just because its leaking oil from the rear main seal doesn't mean they didn't replace it. Seems these engines are notorious for leaking from the rear main seal. Even my 84 Ford Ranger and 84 Ford Bronco 2 all have leaked or do leak from the rear main seal. The ranger had every engine seal, gasket, and bearing replaced and a week later it was leaking oil again, I gave up on trying to stop the leaks and lived with adding a quart of oil every few weeks. My Bronco 2 on the other hand loses oil about as fast as you dump it in, rear main seal needs replaced but I don't have the time, the tools and a place to tear it a part, and I'm not about to pay a shop $1,000 to work on a $700 truck.

Why are you waiting to go back instead of posting this blog?? You should have been there the same day you saw this happen, Bro. Did you call them and let them know? Go back there NOW!!! You paid for a service that they did and you have the proof. Now, if it is another leak in a another area then you are going to have more work done. You need to go back.

Ask em real nice to check out your problem..........

if they give you a hard time.................

Allways be nice and calm at first have your receipt in hand. If you get negative results it helps to throw a fit around other customers. Ask to see the manager and stay in the waiting area when talking to him. I allways ask to see all parts after they say they were replaced. If they can not produce the parts assume they were not replaced.

It isn't hard to damage a rear main while installing it if the proper tools aren't available. I installed mine with a hammer and a 2x4. I was kinda surprised when mine DIDN'T leak.

Also, you say it's been about 3 months. If the crank surface of the seal isn't oiled before installation the seal will wear quickly and begin to leak.

I'll bet that they did replace it, but screwed the pooch during the job.
