Overland Challenge

How do they expect you to get 4 people together for this? I can’t even get everyone in my house together for the weekend!

I'm always there, you just don't notice. It's not racoons digging through your trash at night...

By the way, you eat way too much peanut butter...

People do it. There are a few 3 and 4 vehicle teams. Some teams are made up of company employees like Overland Expedition and Savage Roasters.

Here's hoping you are not holding a grudge about my age joke at the roundup...

Well, I didn't win anything in the raffle.

The competitor's are doing a cooking challenge right now. Each team was given their secret ingredients. Tonight they were a pack of some kind of sausage, an apple, an onion and a sweet potato. They must use those items and can add to them as they wish. The regular staff will go around and taste the results after 45 minutes.

I'm just doing a steak, canned corn and home fried potatoes. I'm damp and tired. Ready to relax.

Rain stopped around 8:00pm. (Almost)

Another interesting event was the Hi-Lift winch challenge. They had to place one vehicle at the bottom of the hill and winch it 45 ft up the hill without their electric winch. They could use any other equipment they had excluding their electric winch. 30 minute time limit. Only 2 teams came close to finishing. This is one of the 2 teams that ran out of time with inches left to go.

Too bad they couldn't use a Ranger. It would pull that right up that hill hahaha

We’ll be prepared for that, I have a few manual winches around...

I could run a hydraulic winch...

That one team did well with a small cable come-along. They were cranking on the come-along and the Hi-Lift simultaneously. That was a lot of furious work on those handles.

I need to see the rules, to know how to get around them, but I wouldn’t be cranking the handle...

Not sure if the rules addressed that. But the intent was to use something other than your normal winch.

Had a fun team at our tire station, one team had a really slow air compressor. So, while they were airing up the repaired tire, they picked it up and carried it around our disabled vehicle, while driving the truck they had the compressor plugged into. That way they could then mount the wheel onto the disabled truck while inflating it. Didn't help. They still had a long wait to reach 30psi.

The fastest team at our station was 4min 45 seconds, if I recall correctly.

Our little volunteer area campfire is dying because somebody lit the whole community firewood pile (almost 2 sixteen foot car trailers worth) on fire all at once. Too hot to sit over there.

Eh, I have a pto port but I would have to redo the exhaust for the unit and I still don't know if I would have room.
