Overheating...need help!!

Is it electric or belt driven fan? MOst likely its not electric, so when you shhut it off there is no airflow through the rad, the water is gonna heat up. When you restart and start pulling air through the rad and the water starts flowing again it cools off. All vehicles do that. Immediately after you shut it off the water stops moving but continues to gather heat from the engine. the sensor reads it and you see it. I dont think it overheating. I would still use your 50/50 mix though. Higher boiling temp.

Mine was overheating and I put a 160 thermo in it and a new rad and water pump, and it stopped it. How old is your water pump? It could be worn out.

Anti-freeze would probably solve the problem? Anti freeze does more than protect a radiator from freezing or boil over. It helps the water be a more effective cooling medium. It will not remove minerals from the water you add, that is why most coolant system state the use of distilled water.

well i finally got it fixed, drained water out, filled with 50/50 mix, drove about 5 miles with the cap on the first notch, and all the air come out, it is now running at the o in normal. also when i got it to operating temp, i stuck a fry grease thermometer in the radiator, and it never got higher then 150, so i guess the guage is a little off as well. thanks guys
