I have a 94 Ranger 3.0 w/ A4LD , both are very tired . I've been thinking about a 5.0GT w/ AOD coupled to a Explorer rear . Don't know if anyone has done this , but would appreciate some tips , help, guidance . This is the second posting . I really need your help, I wouldn't be posting otherwise.
Thank you

Well, if it could be done, there would be numerous entire forums dedicated to providing information on how it's done.

No, that's super secret info that we can't talk about.

man you 5.0 swap guy are so secretive! if only i could get my hands on some of thie top secret gravy!

What they mean to say is if they told you, they'd have to kill you. That's their off-beat way of saying welcome to the V-8 world. Lots of info up top in the tech library. For most cases the Explorer rear end is over kill, especially for a 4x2 coupled with an auto. Bring the questions on.

If the engine/tranny are coming from an Explorer, might as well use the axle too if its no additional cost

...Unless you are lowered significantly with wide tires...

See, we have an answer for everything, with and without sarcasm!

Would a 28 spline hold up to the abuse you guys put on it? Lets be honest and put the granny driving bullshit to the side. You don't put a V8 in a ranger just to grocery shopping.

IMHO stay away from slicks and you'll be fine.

I do have Strange aftermarket axles in mine but the stock ones will be OK.

Many thanks, guess I'm really nervous about the wiring.. Used to do numerous v-8 vega swaps back in the day but no ecu or f/I.Was your swap hard? What kind of tranny did you use? Also the Rearend? Just to give me some ideas.

My 7.5 took a bunch of one wheel peels on pavement for a year until I got the 8.8 slipped under there.

235-75-15 and 31x10.5-15 mud tires.

I rev mine out in first gear, slam it into second, dump the clutch smash the skinny pedal and make my tries scream and my 7.5 has held up good so far.

I'm running 32x11.50x15 bf Goodrich m/t's

Edit: my trans is an np435. When u say first gear, I mean the granny low.

I've been abusing the same 28 spline axles for nearly 19 years. If they can take the abuse I've given them, your Ranger will be just fine.

I've said before that the 7.5 is a lot tougher customer than it's given credit to be. IMHO, it's biggest downfall is it's lesser aftermarket support than that of the 8.8 rear.

And that 91-01 Explorers are on the downward slide right now making 31 spline 8.8's fairly cheap and plentiful isn't helping the 7.5's cause either.

$100 for the limited slip in mine was a pretty good deal not counting the disc brakes, extra beef and the guy even threw in the set of springs.
