Hi all, Chris here. My truck is running on the cold side, 2 new 192 thermostats, boiling water tested. Truck gauge never gets past the N on the NORMAL. range, I've put cardboard in front of radiator still doesn't moves higher. Kitchen dial thermometer zip tied heater hose. Only reads to about 170* even in summer. Also I don't have a EGr valve?
TIA. CHRISTOPHER

Does the truck have good heat on cold days?

I'm going to do an ohm test on the sending unit as its installed, grounded wire, ignition on sends gauge all the way past hot, so that works.

I've never been fond of the factory gauges for any kind of accuracy. If you really want to know temps... put a real gauge in it.

But if it has good heat and the engine doesn't overheat... I'd call it a day and where your factory gauge reads... say that is Normal for your truck. Higher or lower then Normal... you could have a problem.

The factory gauges (once they left degrees and just went to the idiot normal) are pretty bad at quality control... I'd bet either the gauge isn't showing close to reality or the sending unit isn't sending as much ohms as it should. But I am with gump, if it gets hot enough you aren't complaining about cold air out the vents AND it isn't overheating, you are in the zone leave things with the actual system be and isolate your replacements (if really really desired) to just the sender / gauge.

Is your fan stuck on? Mine hangs out around the N for most driving but will head up to the middle of normal in stop and go traffic. I've found that the electric (aftermarket) kicks on at 200 degrees at dead center and then shuts off again when it gets around the N. As far as i can figure the N positon on mine is somewhere around 190 degrees. If you have a mechanical fan and it's stuck running it's entirely possible that the radiator plus fan is keeping you around 190.
