over sized clutch

long story short, I need a 10" diameter disk with a 1-3/8", ten spline input. I can get a custom disk made, but its gonna cost me. I found out hays has an 11 inch disk in exactly what I need.

One: Can I not just throw the 11" on and be done with it or will the pressure plate not fit now because the disk is too big?

Two: If one doesn't work, can I throw the clutch on a lathe and shave off a half inch all the way around so It would fit properly? I can get the 11" disk for 120 bucks and that's a hell of alot cheaper than the other guys.

btw, truck is a ford ranger, 4.0, 5 speed. I need the input so big because thats the size shaft I have to run, due to thats the only size input shaft for the length I need for proper engagement, but I'd rather not get into that at the moment.

I suspect there may be an issue with the 11 inch disk not fitting inside the transmission bellhousing.
 
Ok lets say I "shave it down" on a lathe to be 10 Inches in diameter. Chances are its going to be a 5 or more spring clutch. Will the stock slave cylinder be enough to push it? I assume the contact surface is larger on a 11" disk than a 10" disk so when and after its shaved it will be identical to the clutch specific for my application. Please, if you will someone keep going with me on this.
 
Now, there is another issue -- does the friction material line up with the pressure plate? I'd expect not.

You'll have a very weak clutch if the pressure plate is pushing on plastic.
 
So basically, just because its a 10", doesn't mean its the same for different applications right? Well that blows.
 
You'll probably have to compare the two discs side-by-side and see what you'd end up with after turning it down. If there's enough friction material on it (and the rivets aren't too close to the edge), I don't see why it wouldn't work, but you'll need to make sure the disc thickness is similar too.
