Orange 1977 Pinto

Got the tank down. Going to take it to a friends that has a hotsy pressure washer. It's rusted inside so will try tumbling with rocks inside, then coat with either zinc paint or por15. Depends on the gas resistance of the cured paint. May use some muriatic acid to clean out rust. Also looking at a 45 gal drum of acetic acid if cheap enough.

I think I'm going to just put the tank back as is. Expediency... I need to have this off the lift ASAP. I can always drop it again to do a proper clean and seal. It looks not too bad inside, just some rust but no flakes left.
But I'll paint the outside with Ricks favorite... Black rustoleum.

I have come to a conclusion . . . that @Rick W must get a commission from Rustoleum.

But it IS good stuff; I use it a lot.

IDK if a large enough quantity to do your tank would be cost effective, but Kreem is the go to in the old motorcycle world.

It makes a hard coating on the inside of the tank. For cleaning Evap-O-Rust. That stuff is a miracle in a bottle.

No commission on the rust oleum, just something I can depend on that works great, that’s been around since I was a kid. How many things (or people) can you say that about these days?

Remember, take a little bit and mix it up 50/50 with mineral spirits or paint thinner, and really slop that around joints and fittings and in the seems or joints or whatever. It will suck right into those joints. Then do a healthy coat over that and the rest of it, ideally two coats. And no rattle cans. Get the quart and a 50 Cent brush. You’ll be able to do 10 times more stuff than the rattle can Will cover.

& you won’t need to take a very good look at it when you’re done, because when the rest of the pinto ruts away and melts into the ground around it, that tank will still be sitting there with shiny black paint.
