so as a teenager i always dreamed of having the above said vehicle. being like 13-14 watching youtube all day and seeing nothing but these. everyone says "nothing will beat a toyota" blah blah, tons of aftermarket crap.. you can understand that right?

last week i got to drive the above said vehicle for the first time. extended cab, 31's, 5 speed, 3.4l... supposedly "the good stuff" at first i was all giggity with excitement.

ive driven alot of stick shifts. never had a problem driving one thats new to me. ussually get used to it within a few miles.

hop in this toyota that my dad bought from my brother and went on a 150 mile round trip drive.

lets just say i was not impressed with this rig at all. if you gave me one i would sell it. idk if it was just this truck or if there all like this.

the pedals hardly have any movement to them. clutch is stiff. sometimes i like that. every time i let out the clutch there was nothing..nothing.. nothing.. then BAMM!! its like the plates just slammed together. and the rear tires tried to spin every time. using the arm rest was a PITA, the hole in the arm rest is right where i set my elbow. looking down over the hood was like driving something with 40 inches of lift. everytime i went over a bridge and came back off it was like the rear end was super stiff and the front was extremely soft. and the truck swayed for several seconds after the bridge. the steering was way too touchy and the shifting pattern seemed to be smaller than the 1995 saturn sl1 5 speed that i have.

i dont understand what they hype is, but id rather push a ranger than own one of these tacomas.

i owned a 1988 toyota with the xtra cab and a pretty much built as much as your backyard can build 22r and 35's, i liked it way better than the 1998, but to be honest it wasnt all it was cracked up to be.

has any one else driven one of these 1998 tacoma's? any thoughts?

I don't like the newer yota's.. and yes a 98 is newer IMO when I drive an 88 lol. the newests ones ain't that bad.. like 09+

friend of mine has like a 04? 4 door with an auto, riding in the passenger seat isnt to bad, i like it more. ive talked to toyota fanboys and dont get it. used to be one myself. till i started researching ways to improve the 1988. 22r was at its limits. couldnt do anything with the ifs besides a long arm. the coolest thing was the xtra cab. room for junk but not people.

that was after i owned 3 rangers and an explorer. i think lifted rangers look better than toyota's and everyone has a toyota around here.

the other day i told my friend i was looking at buying an explorer and lifting it. he said why? i asked him if he had ever seen a lifted explorer before? he said not that i can recall. thats my point exactly.

maybe im just being a ford fanboy. after all i do love the 4.0, and being different is awesome.

Where is Straycat? Oooohhhhhhhh Straycat! Where are you?

my girlfriend tells me that im offically a toyota hater.. i told her thats right, but i still want a supra =]

I am here, Bro...lol!!! I do love the older Toyota's. I like the newer ones since I have driven several of them up to the 2010 model. I love that 4 door model!! They are not cheap 4x4's as we all know what they cost new. I have had several of the '80's and '90 models. I loved them. That is the only 4 banger truck I have ever owned and loved the power of that R motor with tall tires (the largest tires I ran were 35inches). I do love the straight axles that came with them. I never had one break on me..but then again I never had any issues with my early lifted Rangers and BII 4x4's. Still remember them and love them. I think I will always own and have a Ranger in my garage as well as Jeeps.

that is one thing i have to admit, the built 22r i had with 4.10's did push 35's fairly well.

makes me wonder what folks on here are complaining about with 4.0 and 4.10's with 35's. ive never ran the combo on a 4.0 but wonder what the difference is.
