Well, I found some trim rings that fit the Crown Vic wheels, and some moon hubcaps that also fit. Have one of each. Need to get some clips for the cap and then buy a full set. Wife likes them a lot.
Unfortunately, my wife came home with our other truck (GMC Sierra) and the brake light was on. Brake line rusted through. That was about two weeks ago.
Of course, it's between the gas tank and the frame rail, so I had to drop the (full) tank to get to it.
When I got to the end where it mates to the ABS controller, I couldn't break the flare nut loose and had to cut it off, along with all the other lines.
Pretty much had to replace all the brake lines due to rust. They broke apart like little twigs. Did it the "fun" way, with a spool of line, some flare nuts, and a flare tool & tubing bender. I'm really good at forming double flares now
The ABS controller was in a stupid location (IMHO), half inside the frame rail, between the transfer case and the torsion bar. If you could get a line wrench on a flare nut, you couldn't move it more than a few degrees without hitting something. So I moved it back about 18" down the frame where it's more accessible and out of the salt spray. Since I was replacing the lines anyway, that was most of the battle. I finished forming the last of the lines last night, tightened everything up and bled the system last night after replacing all the bleeders, then started on extending the harness until it got dark. Should finish tonight.
Then I have to pump the gas out of the tank into gas cans so I can get it back in the truck.
The rear bumper rusted out too, and I have a new one, but that's probably a future project.
The Sierra won't fit in my garage, so I've had to work between bouts of crummy weather and while daylight holds. Finally got some good weather tonight. Luckily, the Ranger will actually fit in the garage once I get to it.
The front bumper for the Ranger arrived - and they sent me the wrong one. It's for the bumper with the extensions and not the one with the impact strip, despite the description on ebay. They couldn't get the right one, so I had to order from LMC, which ended up being cheaper anyhow. Supposed to get that tomorrow.
Darned pull-a-part! I set up a reminder for Rangers and didn't get an email notice that one showed up - a '91, which has a few parts in common with my '87. Two of the other 3 1g/2g Rangers have been scrapped since last time I was there already. Looks like I'll be heading for the yard this weekend...
