ok to run plug wires through a pipe

In that case all you need to do is mark the wires as you put them in...maybe with a sharpie or something similar. Some wire sets are actually printed with the number of the plug they correspond to so it makes it simple...except those wouldn't work in this case if you are making them...

Interested to know how it turns out so will watch for any updates.

Thanks. I am interested to see how this will turn out also... its been a 4 year road so far and hoping to have it firing up in may this year....

cheers

That is interesting, v6 or IL6? you ever had a problem with any ignition arcing?

thanks
Sorry for the late reply. It is an inline 6 and I have never had a problem with ignition arcing. The wires were replaced once during the 37 years I have owned it.

The early 50 Volkswagen beetles had a metal tube to run the plug wires thru from the factory.

Ford Racing build it yourself plug wire kits are prenumbered.

Cool...there you go Angie...problem solved...:)

I've only ever seen a few sets that were numbered...the ones on my 92 3.0 were numbered and that confused me to no end the first time I tried to figure them out.

you'll be fine...this truck has tubes welded into the valve covers that the wires run through..

I can update this question with an answer.

Earlier in the week was at a automotive trade show that is a yearly show with all makers/auto parts dealers suppliers. Was talking to a rep from Taylor and asked him about any cross fire having wires touching each other. He said that years ago plug wires did produce a chance of cross firing because of the materials that were built in the conductor carrying the voltage. Today the conductors don't have the same materials making them and hasn't heard of problems arising from crossing wires. and there will be no problems running the wires in the looms.

Thanks for all the replies.

cheers

I've always believed it was a bad idea to run plug wires closely in parallel to each other because of the risk of generating an inductive spark in the adjacent wire.

Historically this was a reason why Chevrolets were prone to failure of the #7 rod bearing because it was run too close to the #5 wire which was 90deg ahead of it in the firing order and would get an inductively generated current from #5 +90degrees BTDC.

Separating the wires in looms can cure the problem.

Ideally you want the adjacent wires in a spark wire loom to be as far apart in the firing order as possible....
