Ok first I am going to be doing a sas on a 89 2wd ranger and was wondering if anyone is or have ran xj lift coils and if so were they to soft and if they were two soft what coils would you guys recommend I have a 2.9. And also what coil buckets should I run

2. Was wondering about the rear would like to run all leaf springs no blocks and want to run about 6.5 inches of lift or enough to clear 35 to 37's and the second part of that I seen where people run the chebby 63's has anyone ran the f-150 springs if so how were they and did they lift it any.

Oh forgot to mention I will be using a dana 30 I kno its been done right. Anyways thanks in advanced for any info this fourm is way better than any jeep fourm I tried to search.

1. Many have run either Jeep coils or early bronco coils. The rate depends on your truck and what you are going to do with it. The buckets again depend on what you want. Some have modded the stock buckets, used fullsize bronco buckets, custom, or JD bolt on buckets.

2. If you want all spring, gonna hafta get a lift spring. Could get a 2 or 3 inch lift chevy spring and since you have to move the hangers anyway, put where you want and do a shackle flip to get the height you want.

3. Sorry bout the d30.

Yeh I'm gonna eventually go to a 44 or 60 but there hard to find where I'm at and the truck will be used for a trail rig that I can drive to and from the trails if the 30 will allow that and as far as the coil buckets would i gain anything with going with an aftermarket one. And would the 2 or 3 inch chebby springs be pretty flexy or stiff as hell like most aftermarket springs.

the later ford spring is longer similar to the gm, the older ttb type 2wd spring is a near bolt in...have to enlarge the hanger holes.

i ran the xj coils with ttb. one set was 140 ppi and i needed bags even with corrective seats and steering. but 180 up worked great, and unless you have a huge engine and bumper/winch etc i cant see where they would not work well with a straight axle.

I'm just a little confused about the hole shackle flipping I know on f-150's you flip the shackle to gain lift but my shackles are facing down so flipping would lower it wouldn't maybe I'm over thinking this stuff idk :icon_confused: and one more thing do they make xj springs with rates over 150 and could you point me in the right direction. Thanks again for the info guys

Im using 6.5 inch XJ lift coils on my D30 SAS and love them, gave me 5 inchs of lift and Im running a 2.8. Ya mine are 150 rate but they dont bounce and arent overly soft either. Im using skyjacker shocks that are also made for a jeep too, the compress to 14inches and have an extended length of 24 inches IIRC.

I will say, cant really feel railroad crossings like I did with my TTB.

Drangerranger did you use your stock coil buckets and if so did you move them up or down

And one more thing has anyone ran coil buckets like xj's where the coil drops down out of the bucket looks cool but kinda sketchy.

Stock coil buckets and are in the factory location. I did an axle push so thats why they are at a slight angle.

As for the coil comming out the bucket thats more for extreme stuff but if the truck is a DD I personally wouldnt do it just as a saftey thing myself.

Way too much tire for a D30. Keep it to 33" or under until you get a D44 or better if you want that ring & pinion to stay together.

FWIW, I suspect most of those XJ coils rated at 150PPI are more in the low-mid 200s for PPI. I have 240PPI XJ coils under my BII and they were roughly the same free-length as so-called 150PPI ones rated for the same lift height. If the 150PPI ones truly were 150, they'd be much longer out of the truck to make up for them being softer.
TJ coils however are softer (they have a thinner wire).

Yeh I'll prolly end up with 33's pend on what I find. So the xj coils should be fine and is there any companies that are better than others or are they the same.

Mine came from rusty's offroad. I didnt buy them they came with my axle and had to look them up to find out there specs.

In the end I took a chance to see if they would work before I decided to actually go buy what other people have use (such as EB coils) but turns out I wont be having to do any of that.

Yeh I'm prolly just gonna do xj coils and are the eb springs a softer rate than the Full size bronco and F-150 springs or would they be the same. Leaning more towards the xj coils.
