I am somewhat concerned. I just got through getting the B2 ready for the upcoming winter. I changed out the transfer case and transmission ATF and went ahead and changed the oil and filter along with shooting grease in all the front end parts and u-joints.

Here is my problem. I bought all my supplies at wally world. I bought a gallon of ATF, was just enough for both the t-case and M5OD in case anyone cares. Anyhow. I bought 2 gallons of some sort of shell oil.

After I got it all done, back together and started it up I let it warm up and was reading on one of the gallons of oil. On the back it has pictures of big trucks, equipment and pickup trucks. It says "Specifically blended for all types of diesel engines":icon_confused:

Ok, it is 10W30 oil. Does it really matter if it's in a gas or diesel? Viscosity has nothing to do with the fuel type does it? Or should I be dumping this stuff out and putting in something else?

:annoyed:

im no expert but i would say youre fine. i would bet that little statement is geared more towards people with diesels wondering if it will work for them...

I would personally just run it. I know alot of people who buy DMO in bulk for farm machinery and just end up putting it in their vehicles.

I believe the only difference is that DMO has more detergents in it than regular motor oil. Diesel engines run much dirtier than gasoline engines.

I just looked at the bottle, its called "Shell Rotella T"

oil

u will be ok the reason thay say its for diesels is because a diesels run a lot hotter then gas so the oil has to have a higher brake down level then a gas. i know bein a heavey equipment opp

Rotella T is good oil.

I run it in my diesel tractor. I have run it in my b2200 before.

Actually 10w-30 Rotella is probably the best choice for your BII right now.
New passenger car oils have had much of the zinc removed as per govt regulations (might harm the cat). Zinc is an anti-wear agent and older engines with flat tappets will do better with more zinc in the oil, which is what diesel-spec oil has.
Most diesel-spec oil is okay for gas engines but gas-spec oil is not usually okay for diesels.

Whenever I get a diesel in the shop for an oil change we use Rotella oil. Very good oil in my experience. You shouldn't have a problem at all running it in your gas engine.

i noticed the delo 400 i was putting in my old datsun made the seals and gaskets start to leak.i heard it was from the extra detergents etc.it probably won't hurt your truck if you don't use it all the time.

Well, mine already leaks. In fact it has stopped some since last night. I also noticed my oil pressure when revving goes almost to 70PSI now. It is also higher at warm idle.

That oil wont hurt you one bit. Its fine, the only thing that concerns me is you said "upcoming winter" the 10w' will be a little thicker on start up then 5w' If you want more details on this I can check my "FOS" txt and give ya the run down on this oil vs that oil vs that OTHER oil lol. Im a heavy equipment tech/ex opp'. Also, rotella is a good brand, but everyone swears by there fav' brand of oil, non the less, if it has the ASE lable on it its good oil.

What you have is sometimes refered to as series 3 deisel oil. When I was working on logging and construction equipment I would put any leftover oil in an old Rambler I had. When I tore the engine down for rings it was amazingly clean inside.

like everyone else said its not going to hurt anything. im a current diesel mechanic and when my 2.9l is running a little low i just top it off with some of the 15w40 rottella we have in 55 gallon barrels. thers a reason its the most populay diesel oil (to my knowledge) when we do the oil changes in the petes we work on (every two weeks) we dump out 11 gallons of the black stuff and pour in 11 more of the good stuff.

EDIT: Dont recommend it for colder weather though.
