Oil Pump Question

I am going to go to the junkyard today and see what I can find. A long block remanufactured is $1500. Would anyone know what engines besides another '92would be an easy swap?

1989 - 1994 would be your best bet as far easy swap goes. I've never seen a pan with an access cover, could you post a picture of it.

Picture of oil pan access plate.

Not sure at all if pic got uploaded here. Not sure what it is. Cover is not water tight by itself, and may be shielding something else.

Went to three junkyards today and scoped out the situation for a 2.3. Not good, but a friend has access to a 91 2.3 Ranger that is for sale by a friend. It is a stick shift. I might convert over to a stick with that engine and trans. How hard to put in a clutch pedal?

Its not an acess plate for the TQ conv. the tin plate betwen the engine and trans doesnt have a hole to acess the bolts, you have to go thru the starter hole, I have been trying to figure it out for a while I have both auto and stick the tins are the same no hole, I have been looking into it to see if maybe it has some thing to do with 4x4 versions that may have and option its really bug me why

Many years ago my Dad had a 1989 Ranger 2.3L 5 speed that he bought new. After 230K+ miles on it. It lost oil pressure. So I removed the starter, unbolted the motor mounts, jacked the engine up and dropped the pan down. I found the oil pickup screen was clogged with black rubber stuff = oil pan sealer. I wasn't able to get the pan out of the truck. I did have enough room the R&R the pickup screen and clean out. I installed a new oil pump. Put it back together and everything was good.

I to,think the oil pump screen is plugged, you spin a bearing and you are going to know it.Something to try is pull out the dummy shaft or the cam sensor(whichever you have)and spin the oil pump backwards, sometimes it will push the stuff off the screen but sooner or later you will have to remove the engine and clean it or replace the pump.I,d do bearings and such while its out
