oil pressure

i have a 96 4.0 ranger and at about 3k rpm the oil pressure drops and sometimes the check gauge comes on. it runs fine and no abnormal noise, just wondering if this has happened to any one or have any advise what might be causing this

i had a 360 in a 72 F250 2WD that did the same thing, it ended up being a faulty oil sending unit. The diaphragm inside the unit developed a hole and leaked pressure. It was slow enough that idle (low RPM conditions) it held but at high rpm high pressure it failed and equalized both sides of the diaphragm.

This situation resulted in a zero reading on the pressure gauge.

Replace the oil sending unit STAT!!!!!

I agree, it's probably the sending unit. evanesce69, keep in mind the sending units on the newer Fords is a N/O switch that closes at about 7PSI of oil pressure making the gauge read half scale. They aren't an "analog" type of
sending unit on your '72.

simple transposition of words, I would assume in the same location as the sending unit.
