how come some oil pan for mustangs have a front dipstick and other have pan dipsticks. I was told that that the front dipstick was wrong and would not read the amount of oil right. The pans are the same except for the dipsticks. Thanks joey!

Depends where the sump is...

In the 80’s they went to the block mounted dipstick with a dual or rear sump pan.

Before that they generally had dipsticks in the timing cover with front sumps. There was a transitional period in the late 70’s where there could be a oil pan dipstick (early foxbody for example).

The front sump on a dual sump pan doesn’t really count for anything if you have a dipstick in the timing cover. It is only there to have room for the oil pump. It doesn’t hold much oil and for measuring is worthless.
