OK, so probably not shorting out spark.
Take an extra spark plug and set of jumper cables with you as well and a can of starting fluid.
I found an extra spark plug clamped in a jumper cable(other end clamped to a ground), was easier to use when testing for spark.
A timing light is also good, but you can't see the strength of the spark.
Starting fluid confirms if a problem is spark or fuel, so one test spray reduces troubleshooting by 50%, or 25% if there a spark AND fuel problem
Check for 12v at coil, as per the TFI worksheet, as the first thing you do, a blown fuse could be the only issue, except for why the fuse blew, lol.
