Oil gauge- real or idiot light?

Does the oil pressure gauge actually show pressure or is it just a yes/no/idiot light type thing? If it is just an idiot light, would a replacement press sensor make it an actual gauge?

I believe you may need to remove or add a resistor into the cluster. To make a real sensor work.

You can do the conversion listed above, you change the sender to a sensor and add resistors or whatnot to the circuit to make the factory gauge work more like a real gauge. But to be honest, if you really care that much I would install a separate aftermarket guage. Not complicated at all and would show actual pressure numbers, the factory guage is still just low and high so no real idea what the true pressure is.

I concur with lawyer-goats client.

A 22$ oil pressure & water temp guage setup from summit would take about as much time to install as the conversion would take.. mabey even less time.. and give you much better information.

I really don’t want accessory gauges hanging around the cab, but a little digital readout stuck on the gauge cluster would be nice. That’d be nice for temp and voltage as well. I think that’s the plan for the moment.
