Oil filter relocation

Has anyone else tried running a shorter filter instead of a relocator? I run a FRAM PH16, it's about half the length as the PH8A, and never had a problem.

LOL, i like your sense of humor!! I pretty sure if you can run this filter on a V-10, you dont need to change you oil twice as often!! :icon_rofl:

No, but the AN fittings will never leak. Unlike the hose clamp shit that comes with most kits. But I do agree, there's no need to spend $300 to get AN lines either.

i agree with this completely, BUT I went the route with the cheap Trans-Dapt kit and ended up buying the Canton relocator anyway. Next is the Canton filter mounts. The cast aluminum ones are junk and they leak. And the rubber hoses are crap. Might as well spend the money on the Canton kit and be done. Unless, you have parts sitting around and can piece it together much cheaper (that's what I'm doing).

Also, psychotic, my 94 is already running and moving. You might want to check my build out to help you out some.

My adapters and filter mounts are TransDapt stuff and they've never leaked.

Well if that's what you believe, then you'll be rebuilding your engine twice as often instead. :icon_rofl: The size of the engine has nothing to do with the size of the filter. Smaller filters fill up with crap faster than larger ones do. After they reach capacity, then the oil bypasses the filter, letting the the crap the filter would have caught, recirculate back thru the bearings. That really something you want to happen ? V10 filter doesn't fit a 302. The thread count is different, metric vs std SAE.

I did not say the ford V10. It is not only the same filter they run on the viper V10, but if you want, you can go right to FRAMs website and look up and see what filter a 1977 mustang with a 302 runs, it's a PH16. Heck, you can go right to fords website and look it up, it's a FL-300, wich cross references to a PG16, so i'm pretty sure it's ok! I know it wont fit on all ranger swaps, but if you have the room i think it's a great and safe idea!:icon_thumby:

thanks broski... I still got some stuff to do to it yet....

Prostreet Ranger is the one with the sick ride here... his truck was featured in Car Craft.... That thing is AWESOME!

That's all well and good, but doesn't change the fact that a smaller filter needs to be changed twice as often. Unless you like rebuilding engines twice as often.

I haven't looked at which one you're talking about, but a short filter was used on the '94/'95 cobra, as there was an oil cooler in the way. (may have been trans cooler, not sure off the top of my head)

My bro and I both use the short filter due to space limitations.

That is a novel idea that has never been mentioned. It would simplify everything.

I don't drive my truck much anyway (20k miles in 10 years) so if I change it every spring anyway it would still be fine even if you are supposed to run a shorter interval. But then if I get an engine in it that is worth something I might drive it a little more...
