Oil Cap question

Absolutely nothing, it's just plastic. And crap

for $10 the Mustang Cap looked like a nice piece of engine dress up. Also the machining style kind of matched the outer edge of my rims.:D

lol, they don't fail do they?

It's pretty hard to screw up an oil cap.

Yep, but Jeep did it. :p

Most of the 4.0's required you to pop the top half off the cap, and use waterpump pliers to remove the bottom half from the valve cover. Stupid plastic ratchet-y mechanism....the teeth would get soft when it got hot, and they would strip.

Sorry...just learning Rangers.
The "Jeep Thing"? Yeah, we're close friends...

The northern and most midstate mustangs run 5w-30 but some of the southern cars need the heavier weight with the heat. Also some of the specialty mustangs such as the cobra are required to run the heavier weight oils. They are run much less in the winter time anyways. The average mustangs oiler valves are designed for minimum weight oils. But the high performance motors have larger oilers that can handle up to 50 weight on afulltime basis.

What I have seen in the last 12 years and way too many Rangers is the that the newer ones do run the 5W-20 as opposed to 5W-30. My '07' Mustang with the M-90 said to run 5W-20, higher if operating temps are higher. GT-500's and those running the TVS blowers are told to run 5W-50.

This seems to be turning into something an awful lot like an oil debate.

I've also seen the ratcheting mechanism on Ford oil caps wear out. And, I've seen the top half of the caps come off the base. And of course, you could forget to put it back on and lose it driving down the road, necessitating a new oil cap.

ps. the oil I run is right, yours is not. :tease:
