Good afternoon y’all, I had some questions about the exhaust manifold and the bolt pattern. I read another similar post on a different ranger forum but I wanted to confirm. Would OHV headers fit a SOHC 4.0? My truck in specific is a 2010. The first pic is of headers that are specifically for 2001 to 2011, I’ve seen another forum post and they would fit. Second photo is of the OHV headers. Besides EGR location, did anything change?

2001 - 2011 Rangers had the 4.0l SOHC engine, also 1997-2000 Explorer
1990-2000 Ranger had 4.0l OHV engine

Different heads, so don't see them as interchangeable, but never tried

I’m inclined to agree with Ron. The heads are different. So, I don’t think OHV headers or manifolds will fit.

Blame it on the Germans. They came up with the head layout and design.

It's odd though that Summit Racing has the same header part #s for both the 97-4.0 OHV and an 04-4.0 SOHC. Do both of those engines have a drivers side EGR?

Have to watch the 1997-2000 thing because Explorers had the 4.0l SOHC as an option and parts guys and websites often assume Rangers did as well
So grain of salt

The SOHC has the EGR on the driver's side.

OHV is also driver side.

On Summit if I go to a 95 4.0 OHV Ranger the part number is different than shown for a 97 Ranger. I think RonD is right, I can't imagine the exhausts being the same for such different heads designs between the 2.

Thanks for the reply everyone. The second picture is listed as for a 1990 to 94 explorer or ranger 4.0L which is for an OHV. If the bolts all line up and the exhaust ports are the same size I would think it would fit. I would just need a solution for catalytic converter. I guess I’m just confused 🤨

Here is a picture of my 11. They look super different, but the bolt holes look pretty close.

I found the difference, I think that the bolt pattern is the same but the exhaust port size is different. Would 2005 to 2010 SOHC mustang headers fit?

@MSGia - fyi, I put a set of shorty headers on my sohc 2003 Ranger and dyno'd the truck before and after. The torque and power actually went down with the headers! Unless you have another reason to put on headers, I would spend the money on something else.

Those are the ones I put on the 2003 that actually cost me power...
