My credo
If you can't go through it or around it, then go over it.
What is Ford's Official name for the GEM modual on a 97 F150? trying to price one.

and that controls the AC, CC, Windows, Locks, 4WD........... basically everything but the engine?

the 4wd might have its own module like the rangers do.

im not 100% on the name, but thats the module im talking about (the one that controls the windows, locks, etc).

you could always call the dealer and ask...

that Idiot didn't know, and i no longer trust my local ford dealer for anything, not even to change a battery.

how could both be out? or does one control the other?

dont talk to the service writers, they are just there to smile and take money. get ahold of one of the mechanics, he'll know off the top of his head.

im 90% sure its called a body control module.

maybe I should wait till I buy the truck ....... I may not, I remember the last F150 I bought that had this problem. this one I can get for a low price, low enough i could make money by parting it out.

I would suspect that but noting works. it is stuck in 2wd and the A/C, Windows, Locks, C/C, Radio ....... none of it works, it ended up being the GEM on the last one. Didn't figure that out till after I stripped it.

Well I believe it was the GEM. My mechanic's pick up started the same thing and he replaced the GEM ...... and we just replaced a multiplexer in an international that was causing alot of similar problems.

ahh. i was suspecting the flunky windows because that bodystyle had a problem with water leaking in the drivers door seal, running down the inside of the dash and dripping on the fuse box....and it always effected the windows first.

that sounds like a fried (or missing?) body control module alright. ill bet a junkyard would hook you up for cheap.

thank you sir, you are a scholar and a gentleman.

wouldn't that cause blown fuses first?

doesnt leak enough to short the fuses, just enough to corrode the terminals and wiring right there and make the windows operate intermittanty.

oh ok, the windows don't work at all.

I can get the body control module at august pohl for $50 or new from ford for $290 delivered to my shop. I can get the whole truck with 172,XXX for $500. I was disappointed in the last 97 F-150 because it had been punched in the nose and the frame was cracked, I made my money back by stripping it and selling off the parts and recycling the frame. it runs decent, needs a tune up and the transmission shifts fine....... it was used for plowing, the guy wants to keep his plow.
