There were only 1jz and 2jz engines at the shop today. There were none together not mounted in the car so I had to measure them as best I could in the car. From the bell housing to the fromt of the waterpump shaft is around 28 inches. side to side they are also 28 from turbo housing to outer side of intake, I did not include intercooler plumbing as it can always be altered. Height is around 24 depending on oil pan. Hope that is of some help. If you had mentioned your interest in the skyline motor before I would have tried to find it and measure it at the same time.

Tank Engine--that's a good one. Looks like its 1,100 Cubic inches, all aluminum and a 4-cam motor making 500hp at some ridiculously low rpm. Anyone find anything else out about it?

How about a 2009 Yamaha V-max engine? 1679cc V-4
max rwhp: 183.7 (@8521 rpm)
max torque: 123 ft.lbs.(@6716 rpm)
Check out that torque curve, shoots up over 100 at 2.5k, goes higher and stays above until 9k. The horsies just build up from start to finish.
Stock Dyno run:

That's in its stock form. Add a supercharger and I think it'll be one hell of a very usable engine! Besides... I'm sure it weighs alot less than most other bigger motors, too.

I've seen that before, haha... I think there's a video of it... Imagine what you could do with a couple turbos... Looks like you could fit it in a RBV :D

I linked to the video three posts up.

That new link from irish was what I was looking for. It's a Ford GAA then. Here's the wkipedia article on it. It's amazing they used something that incredibly expensive in a tank. A big POS cast iron one would have worked just as well and added a measely 1,000#. Maybe that 1,000# was vital though, who knows.

Here's another engine also used in Sherman tanks--the Chrysler A57 multi-bank 30 cylinder made for 5 six-cylinders hobbled together. I'll bet there's another half dozen engines out there that were used in that thing as well--or more. When we started getting rid of them in the early fifties a lot of the countries we gave them to put in their own engines because the modifications were adding weight the 500hp motors couldn't push.

Sticking with the Ford motors, this was on E-Bay a couple of years ago. Might have to do some "minor" body work to get it all in but hey, it fit in the off-shore race boat!

Looks like 2 big starters there to turn that thing over.

these engines are cool. i've never seen such a big crank. but in all seriousness i was thinking of swapping in a 3.0 out of a nissan 300zx the engine is called vg30dett. i just figure that just because it is a 3.0 would make it a tiny bit easier to swap in than the inline 6 2.5 out of a supra or the small sr20det out of a 240sx. yes swapping anything other than a ford in to my truck but i think it has the that the liter is the same and i have found some cheap ones on the web ( about $1600) and i just figure why the hell not.

would it be a good idea to swap in a sr20det from a nissan 240sx in to an 89 ranger or a 7mgte out of a toyota supra. what would be a better way to go. please nobody say just go with a 2.3t swap cause that has been beaten to death i'm looking to do something out if the ordinary. i'm just wanting to do something different always wanting to explore new territory.

THE reason people always recommend using a 2.3Turbo is becasue it can be done with factory brackets and mounts and bolts to an exsisting transmission.

The two engines you mention are probably fine in a lighter car, but are not the best choices for a heavier pickup truck.

while everyone talks about power and quoted power figuires what
they reallly want is TORQUE

Bigger engine and or forced induction is the easiest way of getting it.

swapping to another engine that makes more power but LESS torque
makes for a very unhappy vehicle.

if someone is purely looking at torque and horsepower numbers. all out the import engines that have been mentioned all have at least 30 more foot pounds than my existing engine. so if i swap in any of the import engines mentioned i'm making an improvement in my hp and torque numbers. and the aftermarket parts that are available makes the engines easy to get the numbers that i could ever want.
