odd engine ideas

Rig a 2.3L HSC engine in and turbo it. :icon_twisted: It's a OHV 2.3L, my Tempo has one. It is different than the 2.3L in Rangers and 2.3Ts. It is damn reliable for what it is. That engine was listed as one of the worst engines made, not because it was prone to fail, but the that high swirl combustion didn't actually work. Vulcan bell pattern though.

I'd like to do a performance build of a late 70's I6 200 someday that had EFI retrofitted. But I doubt it would ever happen.

What would be really fun to me is turboing an AWD Tempo w/ a 3.0L. The cars are like gocarts. I really wish mine was AWD, but I suppose that's just more crap to break.

I personally would go for the R32DETT.
Mind you, I have a project in the paper and numbers stage at the moment that includes a 2JZ GTE w/ 6 speed, aiming for a conservative 800 horsies.

Something like this, Will?

Perfect! My buddy was an officer in the artilllery during the 50's stationed in Germany as part of the Army of Occupation. He said they had radial engines in some self propelled guns and they had the top 2 gears locked out so you had to rev them to keep them cool. Even so, they were always failing. Not really made for the application but there were so many of them left over in the supply system from the bombing and such that they adapted them to other things. Another much younger buddy that is in Amtracs helped restore an old Amtrac that had a radial engine in it. And I know some tanks had them.

the supra motors are huge, especially when they have all the crap attached to them. I'll measure one tomorrow if you like.

Dang, a radial engine was the first thing I thought about... Too bad Will got to it first, haha... I always thought it would be neat to have a 2-cycle car... They make tons of power, but with a terribly peaky powerband... Great race car engine... Or what about a 6-cycle engine?

The 300 swap has been done, but not enough to make it common.

A 390 would absoultly rip in a ranger. Even stock.

Dustin

Steam is the best. Maximum torque occurs at zero rpm.

In my great grandma's diary she talks about their two cars in the family (big extened family--pretty much made up the whole town). One was a Model A and one was a Stanley Steamer. The Steamer had to pull the Ford up a hill to get back home. I have a copy somewhere I keep meaning to scan and post that page.

Thank you martin, what supra engine are you measuring by the way? i thought about doing a rb26dett out of a nissan skyline r34. or a 2jzgte out of a supra but i don't quite know the dinensions. id be happy to settle for the sr20 or the 7m.

Like I said... 6-cycle engine... Uses steam to generate another power and exhaust stroke as well as cooling the engine... Therefore, it needs little to no cooling system...

no steam. maybe 390, want to try to put in supra engine tho. any supra engine.

odd? ok

air cooled vw in a regular cab 2wd ranger. have the engine poking out of the bed and everything. throw as much fiberglass and lexan into it as possible to shed weight. you can build the hell out of a vw motor too.

i've seen a nissan or some other minitruck that did this, somewhere on the net.

how about a vg30tt out of a nissan 300z its a 3.0 i'm just wondering what import engines will fit in a ranger. i thought of doing this for a while i just can't figure what one to get.
