What tools do you use for the fasteners in the engine compartment, SAE or metric?

With a 2000 Ranger most will be metric, I reckon.

Metric. Metric metric metric. Unless you have an 80s Lima engine it's all metric.

The only reason I have standard is I grew up in the 70's and 80's. Well....and I have a bunch of vehicles pre 90's.....and I work on a lot of different crap that needs standard. Too bad north america didn't go metric with the rest of the world, I wouldn't have double the amount of tools.

Ford has been using metrics since the 70's. All lima motors are metric. The lima 2.3 was designed in Germany, and they use the same bolts through the years. All the head bolts are a 12mm thread, and the main cap bolts are 14 or 16mm threads. Intake bolts are 8mm, and the valve cover bolts are 6mm. Exhaust mani bolts are 10mm I think. You can use standard wrenches, as 8mm and 5/16" are close, 11mm and 7/16", 13mm and 1/2", the only two metric sizes you really need are 10 and 12mm

Ford likes to throw some random 15mm and 18mm stuff in there as well, those two are harder to come by...
