i'm pretty happy with it....when i bought it i figured if it didn't work i'd put it on a shelf as decoration.it looks that good.

as it turns out,everything about it works perfect.that's a pretty good $30 spent

That's a nice sewing machine, all cast iron and heavy as hell. You can sew just about anything with them. It's older than you are, heck it's older than I am. If you can find a wheel foot for it, sewing leather or very heavy materials is much easier.

i haven't tried leather yet,but it goes through multiple layers of vinyl no problem.i was pleasantly surprised to find it takes standard singer needles...i was worried with it being so old it may need some oddball needles.it has the original instruction sheet still,it's dated 1955.


and,at the risk of sounding repetitive.....$30!!!!

If you are tempted to try sewing leather, try it on a scrap piece first as it tends to distort and drag on the slipper foot. A walking foot machine is the way to go for leather but a wheel works very well. That was a good deal for that machine, do you let the wife use it?

not so much....i've been a licenced auto upholsterer/glass tech for 25 years.among other things.

i've been waiting for a break in the work to get onto my own projects,and it just isn't happenning.so,i had to make my own break for this one.as this is the getting-the-kids-to-school machine,as well as all-around driver,getting it in shape before summer's over was a had-to-be-done thing.(like all the hyphens?i thought that was pretty cool)

to start,i'll give you a shot of a disembodied explorer roof sitting on some sawhorses.

why?well,because of this;

when i joined the cabs together i knew i wasn't keeping the roof like this,so it wasn't done too nice across the top.then,in december when i carried a load of metal home on the truck that weighed in at around a thousand pounds it didn't make things any better.
the roof was ugly AND leaked.
and the expo roof has a cool power sunroof.nuff said.

so here's the deal...turns out the expo roof is a little wider than the ribbed section of the crew cab,and almost as long as the stretched version i have.
i can make a much cleaner installation by grafting it in place.

i start by marking out the cut on the truck's roof.masking tape works really well for this.

then a little sawzall work gets the job done.
that's one hell of a sunroof!

rough tacked in,there's still a ton of welding to do.but at least it's finally getting going in the right direction

a little summer shower,haida gwaii style.too bad pictures can't really do this force of nature justice.

a bit of bodywork,and it's starting to look like it belongs there.

there's a ton of other work that still needs to happen on this thing before september rears it's ugly head,so i'll have to keep busy.
there's a few boat owners that aren't too happy to see me working on my junk instead of theirs.
oh well,scmidtt happens.
