now that's a bit of a stretch...

Errr...is it supposed to do that?

yup:D

half the travel is inthe suspension, the rest is frame twist.the thing that surprised me is that the front of the box didn't whack the back of the cab.

I think it has an articulating frame, or is that supposed to be a secret?

ya,it's got an articulating frame, but it's the same type that's on all the ford trucks:icon_thumby:

Inspiring work! What did you use for the carbon fiber paint effect?

paint.

:D
actually,i covered that earlier in the thread.i've been promising to go into detail on the process for some time, but it hasn't happened yet.
i should have the opportunity to do it at some point, though.

i share my secrets,grasshopper.

secret is...use frame from truck made before 1997.

the older fords are made like the toyota frame in that video...only with less bracing.rangers are the same way...the old open channel riveted frames flexed with very little resistance, and while this would add a fair bit of articulation to a stock truck over just what's available from the suspension,it acted like a spring without a shock at higher speeds so to keep control over high speed rough surfaces some sort of frame bracing was needed.this function was generally taken up by the roll cage.

I remember Ford promotional videos a while back that bragged about how little frame flex they had

Edit: Found one

Quote of the day: Ford Engineer: "We're about three times stiffer than Toyota is."

Nice work on stretch, Tom. I think you could make your new blower fit on that 5.8 nicely. :icon_welder:

as fun as that sounds....this one likes being as stock as practical.

'practical' being the key word:icon_thumby:

I knew somebody would point that out, but I didn't think it would be that fast. :icon_cheers:

I woulda been sooner but I actually watched the whole video! I doubt that guy is allowed to give presentations anymore, and not just for the stiffy comment.

I didn't think you'd take me up on that but it's fun to dream!

i'd ask if you've got the requisite box dents in the back of the cab....but i'm not sure you'd be able to find them:icon_thumby:
