Not Another CTOR Build

yeah i am going to build the 44 for now, and keep looking for the 60, their is enough jeep guys in my area where when it comes time to sell the 44 and 8.8 i could get quite a bit for the pair. thats also why i am going with a 16" or larger tire this time around. Works easier and cheaper when the 60 is found. cause i would not need to get new rims / tires

got a little done today, i ground off my coil mounts from my frt axle and also took the wedges off the pass side so i can cut it down to EB width (this is why i chose the 77 D44 instead of the 78-79 D44's)

also it looks like i may trade my iroks for a set of 36x12.50 15 TSL's that have been custom grooved. I should know tomorrow for sure on the tires

lookin sweet, whens this thing going to be on the trail again?

lookin sweet Thanks , whens this thing going to be on the trail again? well the first round of building took me about 2.5 months to build it from frame off, this time with $$$ being the biggest hold-up probably about 2 months

i no longer own Iroks, i know own a set of 36x12.50 15 Bias TSL's with custom grooving

heres a pic of the tires on the guys Jeep i got them from

the tread depth on them is deeper then what my iroks were, my iroks still had 19/32nds worth of tread left in the shallowist part

You got the better part of that bargain. I don't know anybody that would want to trade a set of TSLs for a set of Iroks. Man, that was just a dumb ass move on the Jeep owner's part.

90% of his wheeling is on Rock, he wanted to try something different

heres a better shot of the tread, man its gotta warm up so i can get back to working on the B2 and getting it ready, i wanna play with the new tires

That guy was an idiot if he gave up grooved TSLs for Iroks and he does 90% of his wheeling on rocks. IMO, nothing beats TSLs on the rocks. I have a couple buddies running Iroks and they hate them in the rocks. They wear REALLY fast and like to chunk alot. Also, they are prone to sidewall cuts/punctures. The TSL is a way tougher tire. You will really like those grooved TSLs.

a general shot of my current set-up

could jsut be me, but this reminds me a awefull lot of one of my buddies truck...blinky headlight and all....

whats funny is he has a lazy eye, so the eye that doesnt work right he has missing that side headlight on his truck lol

im trying to do what you did-help

Right now i'm at the same point as this picture of yours ,with my 88 supercab. im going to stay full width on the d44,not sure the year of it because there arent any bom numbers on it. my front d44 is exactly the samething as yours. yesterday i tried to fit the coil springs in there........forget that.......the coil buckets are too far appart . did you make new coil buckets and move them inward? if i bought new/aftermarket weld on coil mounts, would that work ? i'd like to do it the right way and have my coils straight up and down. any suggestions you have will greatly help me out .:icon_thumby:

after much measuring, comparing, and comtomplating (sp) i have decided that i will be going full width instead

i'll have to get wheel adapters to go from 5x4,5 to 5x5.5 and i'll probaly get two rims with an inch diferent BS to finsih the compensation of width

8.8 WMS 60"
D44 WMS 66"
3" each side=wheel adapters 1.80" thick=1" back spacing difference=close enough

Picture014.jpg

mocking up the frt axle for now, gotta reposition the coil buckets yet and getting my bushing kit for the frt axle from broncograveyard tomorrow

those are not the coils i'm using, the red ones on the left are the coils that i will be using

i also got a good core support and fneder support from another donor, so i ended up drilling 100 spot welds twice today......that sucked

yeah i butchered fabbed some temp lower coil mounts...........

Bronco1-9-2007016.jpg

this is the axle upside down...........

right now i have the wedges cut off the tubes (see above pic) and i will be rewelding them further in on the tubes to allow me to mount the coil on top of the radius arm vs next to it.

not upside down, but turn 180 from where it would be in the truck

got some different rims and got my TSLs mounted up......also dropped my axle housing off to have the right side tube shortened to EB width. So i will no longer be full width up front. I had to many problems with the really tight trails that i wheel. I kept running the RF tire into trees and similar.
