I have an 84 ranger with a 86 302. i have electronic ignition on it. well i went to leave work the other night and it would'nt start. I looked at it during the day today, and when i was checking the coil for spark it would only spark once when you cranked on it. As soon as you hit the key it would spark once then nothing.

I ran a wire from the coil to the battery but that didnt do any good.

The guy at the parts house (not autozone) tested the coil and said it was good. Could it be the electronic module, (grey box)

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Brian

sounds like a bad module to me

I would check out your Ignition switch and see if its coming apart. Its mounted on the column about half way down and has alot of wires pluged into it. It sounds like this to me. If the ignition box is not getting power it will not spark the coil even if you run a hot to the coil.

I am not familiar with your engine, so I don't know about it having a distributor or whatnot. My 2.9 was having a spark issue. Power to the coil, but no spark. It was the distributor stator/pickup not sending a spark signal to the coil.

I swapped out the ignition module and it fired right up. I had one laying around so i figured i would try it and it worked. Now i need to buy a new one because i don't like putting used electrical parts on. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it.
